Thank you for your review and hope you do get the opportunity to visit us again.
Thank you for your review and comments about the estate, we are really proud of it. As you have noted the café is not open every day (outside of the summer months). The opening hours are listed on our website, our Facebook pages and Trip Advisor listings and if someone does book out the entire café, say for a wedding, we also list that information on our website. For those people visiting Tahbilk and planning on dining at the café we do recommend calling 03 5794 2555 ahead for a booking.
Thank you, pleased you enjoyed your time at Tahbilk.
It's about a 2 hour drive from Melbourne but well worth the trip. We timed our day to have a look around the vineyard buildings, including the cellar, before lunch in the cafe (make a booking if weekend). The food was superbly matched with a glass of their own drop. Our day was sunny so sitting on the outside deck was a plus. The view from the deck is to the nature walk across the lagoon so you can walk off your meal before doing a wine tasting. Unfortunately our wine tasting coincided with a bus group so there was limited opportunity to discuss the wines with the staff. Apart form midweek hard to avoid bus groups. If buying wine, join their wine club to get discounts and special offers.
I have wanted for years to visit Chateau Tahbilk. I have now done so and was not disappointed. Now, I am looking forward to the next visit, and time to enjoy a meal in the delightful surroundings
Visitors to Glenaroua or Seymour should note that Tahbilk is a worth a visit. There is a café on the Goulburn river and a very old winery to visit for wine tasting before or after eating at the wetlands café.
This gorgeous winery right on the billabong has something for everyone! After a delicious lunch in the beautiful restaurant, we took a lovely stroll across the bridge through the lovely bushland! A very picturesque landscape! The wine tasting and self-tour of the historic wine-making building was also a great experience! Highly worth a visit!
bought some wine from the cellar door and had a fabulous lunch in the restaurant. Would definitely return.
This lovely old winery is not to be missed. We live in nearby Heathcote and travel frequently to Tahbilk to stock up our wines. Tip, join their wine club for immediate discounts on your purchases. Look out for their bin ends, great value. Make sure you have your camera for spectacular scenery.
Food was yummy and came out quickly (we were starving!) -- reasonably priced. Service was outstanding and the toilets were very clean.
This place is a beauty, step back in time when you walk around the vineyard and gardens, enjoy some tastings (sensational wines) enjoy the nature walks. The cafe is ok but we were there right at opening and the service was not good as the staff seemed more intent on dealing with other duties rather than customers. The coffee and snacks were good, but some more simple kid friendly selections would be good
Went for lunch without a booking. Once we got to the place, the front person said that the outdoor seating was not available without a booking. It was Ok with us. Got seated by the passage that goes to the outside as if they giving us a favour to be closest to the outdoor area. We had to change as it was very annoying people walking pass us. The floor shake badly with every step. DO NOT seat on the passage way.Food was OK. Chicken in the chicken salad was very dry. The oil from the fish and chips was old, you could tasted it. The girls serving were very nice and friendly. Attentive as well. When it came to leave, the front person didn't even lift his face to say good bye. We said good bye and he did not bother to even look up. Just replied with a faint good bye voice. We then went to have a look at the vineyard, was lovely, great grounds, and winery. Even got to see a red belly snake on the side of the bridge!
Visited the winery in November and it is fab! Its full of history and had a great little guide available at the door to have a read through. We had a stroll around the grounds and had a look around all the old barrels in the cellar. The only let down was the staff on the day, they completely ignored us so we didn't get to try any of the wines. The cafe was very busy on the day which can only be a good thing, we didn't have time to stay but the food looked great!
I first visited Tahbilk Winery seven years ago and was determined to go back. I was glad to see that the cellar and the tasting area, all in one wooden building built in 1860, was still intact. I made a beeline to the cellar. It was as I remembered it from my previous visit, a wine lover's haven with the centuries old ceiling and floor soaked in wine, and the lovely aroma enough to make one tipsy after only a few minutes down there. The ladies at the tasting were courteous but I thought they were too chatty with customers, blissfully unaware of those who waited patently in line to purchase a few bottles of wine. I bought a 2010 Shiraz, hoping to have it with lunch at the winery's restaurant, but I was not allowed to do so by the restaurant's management.BTW, the 2010 Shiraz proved to be excellent.I strongly recommend the Tahbilk Winery for anyone willing to take the lovely drive from Melbourne.
After a nice lunch in the cafe we walked around the winery. First to the cellar door. Very interesting and full of history. We walked downstairs which took us underground where they had all the old wine barrels. It was surprisingly quite big underground. Then we walked around the grounds and past the vineyard. This is a winery I would come back to again. Makes for a nice Sunday outing.
