Unfortunately this place closes at 3pm so it wasn't possible to go inside by the time we got there. But still ok to walk around the outside and admire some of the old machinery and equipment on display behind the gaol and across the road in the stables. Disappointing that we couldn't go inside, but gives an excuse to go back another time. Entry fee of $3.

Kids loved the museum, plenty of interesting memorabilia and well presented displays. Staff were informative and friendly.

Great museum, has great history of the regions displayed in the old cells at the back. Had heaps of information on bush ranger Moondyne Joe.

Tells heaps about the history of Toodyay (used to be Newcastle) and especially Moondyne Joe who spent some time in this gaol .The various cells have the stories associated with the gaol and we havea Moondyne festival on the first Sunday in May complete with Moondyne Joe escaping being recaptured and sent to trial

Really interesting and informative staff - certainly worth the small entrance fee. How prisoners survived in the heat in those cells is frightening

The Newcastle ( former name for Toodyay) Gaol Museum is well worth a visit. There are exhibits in the cells of the Dorizzi memorial and The Moondyne Gallery showing the life of the legendary criminal as well as a fascinating holographic display showing an aboriginal prisoner - his family, adventures and incarceration. The poster displays are very well done really helping the visitor to learn about such figures as John Forrest, Drummond and the Gregory brothers. As a bonus, go across the street and see the old Police Stables. This is just one example of why you stay a day or two in Toodyay.
