We got the bus from Villa de Leyva to the park which was ready considering we don't yet speak Spanish. It was COP 39,500 for forigners and COP 8,000 for foreign students. Make sure you arrive at the gate (3km hike from where bus drops you) between 8-10am otherwise the won't let you go up because you won't get down again before dark. It's a really hard climb so take plenty of food and water and a jumper to wear at the top as it's cold. The path was fairly easy to follow and the views were stunning. Once at the top the laguna is amazing! As I said, hard climb but definitely worth it.

This is a dream of a wilderness park high up in the mountains above Vila de Leyva. There is a lodge where you can stay and a trail up to a lake way up from the lodge.Half the fun is getting there! Take the Arcabuco road out of Villa de Leyva and look out for the signs. Each turn off leads you on to a less and less made road until you start to climb towards the park. Very hairy drive on unmade steep road for the last 1km up to the park entrance. We made it up in an ordinary saloon but you need to be a confident driver to do this and frankly you could damage the car.. Really you need a SUV and if wet FWD. We made it up to the amazement of the park warden but there is a continual danger of bottoming out on the ruts and potholes in the track. The park is beautiful. A well made and marked trail leads you up and up. To the lake and back is a 5-6 hour walk so you need proper hiking gear, water , and a picnic lunch. Beautiful crisp air like champagne. Just the very best day out from Villa de Leyva. I am sure the Tourist Information in V de L will put you in touch with a guide if you don't have your own transport. There is a probably a bus to the base of the road up to the park but much to far to walk from there. I guess the warden will come and fetch you if they know you are there but the park staff have no english whatsoever. The park fees are expensive for tourists but standard across Colombian national parks.Don't forget a copy of your passport!!

Great outdoor place if you have the stamina to climb a very steep and very long path through the forest to the lagoon. It is a hike, not a ramble. There isn't much to see on the way up unless you stop to search for small, flowering plants. Birds are shy. The first part of the trail to the lodges is easy and pleasant. Sitting on the veranda at the lodge, sipping tea and looking out over the hills in the silence was bliss for me.
