Get ready to commune with geology in this peaceful somewhat "natural" wonder. Ok mines aren't natural, but they do provide windows into the inner secrets of our beloved earth. Do you think caves are just made up of stalagmites & stalactites? How about icicle like structures that point straight out to the side of the walls? Wow. The experience is a visual wonder from solid salt walls - that can be licked if you dare, to a salt "waterfall" that seems to be frozen in time. Our guide was wonderful and patient and allowed us to enjoy the serenity of the space. Also, you get a free spa treatment with every visit. Dip your hands into the salt water, let the water evaporate and rub your hands together to reveal that silky skin you've been hiding under those scaly gloves. Tip: Bring your camera and a flash to get a beautiful shot of the reflections from the salt mirror and if you bring your lovely hang back from the tour a bit and sneak a smooch - go ahead, I won't tell.

Great place to visit... Definitely much more authentic and rugged than the Zipaquira salt mines (less touristy feeling). Would recommend if you find yourself Bogota sometime! A little cool so bring a sweater!

Our options were this or the Salt Cathedral. Oscar, our guide said this place was more authentic, and far less crowded. That sold me. We were there the afternoon of New Years Eve, and we virtually had the place to ourselves. It has less religious significance than the Salt Cathedral, according to Oscar. Walking through and seeing the stalactites and stalagmites was breathtaking. Water that appears to be 20 feet deep is as shallow as your fingertip. A visually astonishing experience, and it is within an hour of Bogota. Not to be missed. Highly recommended.

was terrific to go to this mine - we are really looking forward to seeing the movie "the 33"which was based on a true story about the miners in chile that were trapped for days. they did some filming in the nemoncon mine and left a peice from the film down in there for all to see.

If you are visiting bogota, and maybe you already had the opportunity to go to Catedral de sal (Salt Chatedral) in Zipaquirá, you definitively must to go Mina de Nemocón (Nemocon's salt mines). It is one of the best experience I've had in life. The complete experience is great, It is a kind of 80 mts underground rustic salt mine. It is an amazing your, full of magic places as the Espejos de agua (Water Mirrors) which is an incredible effect made by the water with high concentration of salt. You can find also a copy of the "Salvation Capsule - Fenix 2" with which the Chilean miners were saved. (Remember this was the location for the Antonio Bandera's movie : The 33) There is another amazing chamber, full of colors which is the Heart's chamber (La camara del corazón) It is a great place, you'll find a big salt Crystal (It is a world's largest salt crystal found until today) the crystal is sculpted is the shape of Hearth. And tells the story, you can swear eternal love to your Loved One (your real and eternal love), and if you make this in front of the Salt Crystal Hearth-Shaped, this love will last Forever. Do not even mention, roof is covered by the Stalactites, which are amazing formations from salt and water. I totally recommend this place, nice tour, safe, nice guidance, alternative to eat, and at a really good price. Do not forget to rent the helmet, the cost is 1000pesos in local coin. (This is less than a dollar) The cost of the ticket for this is 16000 pesos in local coin or 8dls. To Go to Nemocón you can take the Train of the savanna (tren se la sabana) in bogota, or go in bus or car to Zipaquirá and after it go to Nemocón. By bus or car is not more than 1hour. Go to Nemocon from all perspectives is a great experience.

It is a must go place when in Colombia. Just an hour car ride from Bogota, right in a beautiful little town called Nemocon. The almost 2 hr guided tour,at a very reasonable price ,will take you inside the mine, walk through well illuminated inside the mine corridors, that will give you the unique opportunity to enjoy a real underground sal mine that still under operations and where Antonio Banderas and other artists filmed the Chilean mine disaster movie that soon will come out to public. If in colombia take this tour by car or even more fun by train.you will not regret

Together with friends we went for a tour through the salt mines. It was a good experience! The tour guide was very friendly and he seemed to know a lot about the mine and the technologies. He really tried to make it a fun experience by telling jokes and providing lots of photo opportunities. We also had lunch in the village, which is calm and tranquil. Nice to get out of the business of Bogota and see the surrounding countryside.

Went on the Tour of the Salt Mine in Nemocon today. We arrived to the town by the Tourist Train out of Bogota which was a great ride and then took a bus to the Salt Mine. Sneakers recommended as in some spots can be slippery. It was a good tour and the tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Because we had to meet the train again and the bus was going to take us to the next town for lunch and to meet up with our train back to Bogota it was a quick tour. Approximately 40 minutes. I would definitely recommend to see the salt mine. It's a peaceful and beautiful place. Coming up lots of steps can be hard but it was much easier when we were going down when we entered. Not enough time for shopping but will go again so we can walk around the town leisurely.

It is a salt mine, located in Nemocon, a small town close to Bogotá. you can see white caverns, with natural formations in the rock, it is incredible, mirror waters, salt pools, the guide explain you the salt explotation process. Is a place silent and peacefull. When I visited it they had the plan make a underground lake with boats... may be it is currently functioning, should be really nice!

Mines always interest me, especially those where the man tries to compete with nature....What made my visit to the mine of Nemocón special (outside of the Group of friends with whom we did ride) was the guide who took us and made us walk with eyes closed up to the heart of the mine and allowed us open them just in front of the water mirror of the abyss...was really nice...I recommend making the visit with guide. The access roads are bad and poorly marked.

We visited the salt mine in Nemocon one Sunday afternoon after walking in the ciclovia in downtown Bogota. It's about a 40 minute drive from the city center, a pleasant drive in the country with great views of the mountains. We arrived at the mine just in time for one of the guided tours. You have to don a hardhat to enter. We had a great tour guide whose Spanish was clear enough even for me to understand, with my limited command of the language. You descend into the mine to see fantastic salt crystals, stalactites, stalagmites, deep caves, and mirror pools. You are invited to dip your hands in the water and let the salt crystallize. The guide explains the therapeutic benefits of the salt. I would definitely recommend this for an afternoon trip in the countryside.

Having been to both places, Minas de Nemocon and Cathedral of Zipaquira, I like these Nemocon mines better. The inside landscape, the salt water mirrors are amazing! The colorful lights inside make the caverns and water mirrors an out of the ordinary place.
