A ride to the Cerro Avila with a magnificent view of the huge city of Caracas.Nothing expensive, although the staff is not properly friendly.Do not miss!

My advice: Take the teleferico when you are coming down from El Avila (no waiting lines up there). Going up, you'll have to wait half a day to get on it. Lines are long and slow, mostly mornings. If you want to go up El Avila, it's better to take a car. You can hire a transportation service outside Hotel Avila in San Bernardino. It'll take you half hour. Views are amazing, you have to experience this ride if you come to Caracas.

The Caracas Aerial Tramway ascends El Ávila Mountain within El Ávila National Park, in Caracas, Venezuela. The park area at the top of the mountain is a wide walkway along the ridgeline. Several sellers have set up food or handicraft kiosks. There is also a restaurant and ice skating rink, an enormous Venezuelan flag waving in the breeze, and the ruins of the Humboldt Hotel. Often the top of the mountain has clouds drifting through it, obscuring the view. It is several degrees cooler than Caracas or the coast. When the clouds clear, the city of Caracas can be seen on one side and the coastline on the other side.

Assuming that you must visit Caracas (and dare to do it), then if you want to take a leisure day, a visit to Avila mountain using the "teleferico" (cable car) is a good bet. Taxis to and from the starting terminal are easy to find. Once in the teleferico, the trip takes about 30 min and all during the ascend and definitely once at your destination at about 2000 mts of altitude (6000ft), you will enjoy impressive views. Yes, it is quite high so bring appropriate clothing since weather can turn cold. The terminal is quite secure and reasonably well kept. There are some good places where to hike. One of the main attractions used to be the Hotel at the top of the mountain. It was a real time capsule. It closed in the fifties and never opened again. For almost 50 years it was in excellent conditions. You could enter bribing the security guard and then it was like you were in other era: all the furniture and decor was intact, impresive and irreplaceable. The solitude was eerie. The whole experience fantastic. Not any more: they started “remodeling” the hotel and destroyed/stole everything. You can walk out of the installations (quite safe!!!) and if you really like walking find some superb restaurants. My best advise would be hire a guide with a his four-wheeler before leaving for the Avila and agree with him date and time to be picked up at the terminalon the top. Best place to find them: at the entrance of Hotel Avila in Caracas.

Local crushes, friendly people and typical art add to an amazing ride on cable car up the mountain and back

A nice view of the mountain. At the top we can find installations that should be upgraded or working. The walk is very nice

I hate heights. I am deathly afraid of cable cars. Why do I do this to myself? The world may never know... I had a mini panic attack on the way up as soon as I felt the height, but once I was able to calm down, the views are amazing. The cable cars only fit about 10 people, so you can see pretty much everything around you, and there's so much to see - including a huge void in between two mountains which felt horrible in my stomach but I just couldn't look away! Once you get to the top and out of the car (and kiss the ground if you're me) you're in a much colder weather than down in the city, and there's something whimsical about the fog and the architecture. Warairarepano/Galipan (the name of the area above the mountains) is very pretty and filled with vendor spaces that sell knits, food (from churros to arepas and other national staple items), hot chocolate, and more! It's a very nice family-friendly attraction, and beautiful to witness. I went during the day, and we had a little rain but it wasn't bad, it rather kind of added to the experience. I've heard some people go at night and it's gorgeous, but my heart really can't take that, so I'll just take their word for it :)

This ride is safe, clean, and inexpensive. It also offers a great sight of the mountains and the city of Caracas.

The aerial lift arrives you to one of the famous sites in Caracas, the "Ávila" or now it's called "Warairarepano". You can view all the valley bellow your feet, the perfect hour is in the night to see all the city's light.

Its one of the longest air gondola rides I've been on. It goes over 3-4 ridges each one way higher than one below. Very steep up the ridge side and almost flat over the gullies. If you are afraid of height don't go or keep your eyes close during almost 20 minutes ride. For me it was extremely nice as the gondola was going up and up, opening beautiful vistas of Caracas. On top there are numerous small shops with all kinds of sweets and a few restaurants. View is spectacular on one side is Caracas and on the other village of Galipan and sea shore. Blue sky and sea water merge so you can't tell where one stops and the other begins. Later in the afternoon there were bands playing popular Venezuelan music with hundreds of listeners dancing to the Latino-American rhythm. If you have time visit Galipan, the four wheel drive vehicles will get you there and back for pittance. All in all an unforgettable experience. If you cannot go on air tram you can take taxi round way from Caracas to Galipan and 4X4 to Teleferico top.

I have been there an Teleferico to Avila hill is a very good price choice (BS 200), is about 15 minutes going up and when you arrive there is a very beautiful and calm place, good to drink some hot chocolate and read a book, you can also ice skating on the rink there and is very cheap (BS 200).

This is the perfect place to see the beauty that Caracas has to offer you, you will find something to eat but is not that good!
