Arpoador Beach is in between Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches. Access is easier from the Ipanema side. It is a bit crowded at sunset. By far the best shots of ipanema and leblon are taken from this end of the beach. Loved it a must for all romantics and photo shoot professionals.Plenty of good quality accommodation and eating options available near by.
A great place to watch the sunset, really beautiful. However, it's very crowded, so get there early if you want to have a nice place to sit and relax.
Connecting Ipanema and Copacabana, Arpoador is a nice place to walk along side the rocks. It's also got some of the most intense waves in the area, which makes it one of Rio's top surfing spots.Sunset is pretty and it would indeed be a romantic place for a couple, but don't expect a lot of seclusion. This is an active place.
Be aware of this place. Whatever you do? Don't ! Go have your "doobies" while you watch the excellent sunset. They have a "special police" just for you. The sad soul that thought it would be a "natural high" and enhance your "consciousness". But it's not. This is sadly repressive brazil. And you will get In big troubles. Unless you have "big pockets". This place was once "the best of the best" but that was like 1974 or something. Also. Highly criminal activity. And when you do need help? That same "special police" will be nowhere to be seen. Sad. In a better world or some years ahead. Who knows. The magic may come back.
I loved hanging out at Arpoador beach as it's really good for people watching! There are a variety of types of people who come through Arpoador - the person who exercises, the business person, the beach person, the ladies from Ipanema with their cute dogs, the surfers and then all the tourists. You can go to the Pedra and sit on this rock and watch the sunset too. I would really recommend this. Definitely an interesting place in Rio to meet or see lots of different people!

I highly reccomend you to go to Arpoader for sunset. It is truly amazing to sit on the stones and see the sun going away in the sound of applause and thanks of everybody around you :)
I go to Arpoador just for the view, both the landscape and people watching are worth it! Surfers, people walking their dogs, tourists walking around. It's famous for being the best spot for sunset watching (it is! although Lagoa it pretty nice as well) but I recommend it any time of day! You can walk up to get the best view or hang around the orla and grab a coconut (or a beer!).
I went there on January with high temperatures of summer. Finding Arpoador thanks to a brazilian friend was like finding Rio of my dreams. A clear Beach with soft sand, samba music, people chilling and a the turqueoise beatiful sea with cold water. It was refreshing and really pleasant, I stayed with my family all the afternoon until sunset, wich was the mostrar stunning view I've seen in Rio. You stare the horizon with the mountains of Cerro dos Irmaos at the right, the moon rising on a corner and the ocean and the sun saying a long, orange goodbye. It was so beatiful that people all over the beach clapped with the last spark of sunset, all over the shore people clapping the magic of the sunset. A moment I'll never forget
Arpoador Beach is in between Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches. Access is easier from the Ipanema side. Walking towards Arpoador Beach, you will see the rocks. Make sure that you have good shoes, because some of the larger rocks are smooth, so beach slippers aren't recommended. Get there at least 30 minutes before sunset and walk around for a few minutes before settling in for the view at sunset. We did this our first day in Rio, and it set the tone for an incredible week.
If you want to watch the best sunset in Rio, this is the meeting point. Definately you won't be disappointed. The mix of sea, mountain and sun. It is just breathtaking!
