Been here many times and always a good thing to do in Rio. 7 reais admission. If you are going to be there late in the day take some mosquito repellant. In the past I've seen toucans, monkeys, a snake, and a load of other birds here. The planting is amazing - mainly as a result of the age, and the avenue of palm trees is simply outstanding. They now do a very good guide in English listing the important historical points to looks out for. Great orchid house, bromelia house and also area for cactus. Easily combined with a visit to Parque Lage, or the lagoon. A really lovely shady place to wander round, in the middle of the city - really not to be missed. The big minus for me is they have moved the very nice cafe to outside the gardens, though still in the complex and turned it into somehthng much smarter than before. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table on a Saturday afternoon, whereas before it was counter service and this would never have happened. Take some water etc with you. That being said, the restaurant is great, just a little too fancy for what you might want.
The Jardim Botânico is really easy to get to, with lots of buses passing by it. We spent an entire afternoon just strolling around and taking in all the sites - there are lots of ponds and glass houses with various plant/flower species. They give out maps at the front house, so you don't get lost like we did a couple times (haha!).Definitely set aside a couple hours for this, or maybe a whole afternoon. It may be better to do this with a guide, as my friends and I went without and ended up wandering around a lot.
Head for the Botanical gardens for a cool (relatively) and quiet time. Great cafe "Bicyclette" at the park entrance with good coffee and sandwiches. Also a small kiosk about half way around (this was very much appreciated) for a cool refreshing iced maté drink ( or coke, if that's your poison!) Good signage in English as well. Not very crowded but such a large attraction, it can cope. Hot tip...get a taxi there....the bus ride was out of a Formula One trial! Mind you, the taxi drivers can also have a moment!. Over all, our taxi experience in Rio has been positive...only once did I feel the driver tried to take us for a ride....although I ended up having to navigate for our last ride home...the driver explained he was new at this...only been in town for 5 days. I said "what a coincidence, so have we!" Google maps...I love you.
We spent a couple of wonderful hours here just wandering amongst the trees and gardens. So many huge mature trees also provide a welcome break from the sun and heat. Our favourite was the cactus garden, I had no idea there were so many varieties.
A great way to while away a few hours. Interesting gardens with plenty of wildlife. Orchids to die for.
WE decided to go here on the last day as a last minute decision- and I am so glad. There were maybe six people in the whole place as we went around. So many interesting plants- it was impossible to keep track. This is just a beautiful garden, well kept, and with an amazing array of plants. Its a wonderful place to hang out for half a day.
if you love the enviroment , you need to visit this . many kinds of botaniccs lives . you can visit by a car or a bus .
This is a nice quiet walk and interesting things to see but relax at the same time. There is a snack bar there and is relatively near to Copacabana, about 25 reais in the taxi.
This garden is not very big, but very pretty. Monkeys and exotic birds can easily be spotted everywhere. I don't think it would be my number 1 place to visit, but would definitely place it in the top 5. We enjoyed spending a couple of hours here and got some beautiful pictures.
Fantastic plants, especially in the orchid house. Found the remnants of china (some English) very interesting in the gunpowder factory building. If you are over 60 sign up for a free buggy ride round the gardens as they are so big, it would be difficult to see them all on foot.
Every single time we are in Rio my wife takes us to the Botanical Garden: a real nature paradise conceived by the Emperor of Brazil lined up by beautifully displayed palm tree. The roses and orchids are a must, as well as the water fountains. Ask for a guided visit and you shall never stop coming.
The Jardim is impressive: the most important Brazilian species can be found here. It is also very relaxing; definitely worth a visit. If you are in Ipanema or Leblon, you could easily walk up there, in just 30-45', passing by the lagoon. Double check the opening time, as sometimes they open at noon.
Beautiful place near Ipanema and Leblon. Poor information to tourist, but yo can be able to contemplate a lot of gardens, giant threes and if you are lucky yo can met little monkeys.
we visited this on our first day in Rio. Very peaceful. I fell in love with the tree abricot de macaco. The gardens are exquisite.
If nature, plants and walking are your interests then definitely pop by to check out this place. Its cheap to get in and really wonderful to walk around for a while. I only spent about 90 minutes here but you could spend several hours if thats your thing. Sadly the sensory garden was closed. Hence why only 4 stars.
