The best day in Sucre was going to the falls. I was in company of other five “foreigners.” We took a public bus to the falls and it was enjoyable experience “rubbing elbows” with the locals. There was a “good distance” walk to the falls and we saw the rubbish all over the place which made us sad as the nature was beautiful. When we came to the falls there were LOTS OF ROCKS that had be climbed over and there were areas that were VERY DANGEROUS but with our group was NOT too much trouble as we “worked as a team.” It is WORTH IT going to see/enjoy falls. Water was just PHENOMENAL: perfect temperature and color was just beautiful. There are seven falls, but if it is too much of climbing one can go to the first or second one and that can be as well VERY SATISFACTORY. Maybe future visitors can organize a CLEAN UP of the place…

Shame that the locals seem to leave lots of rubbish everywhere. The areas where you would normally be able to sit to enjoy the sun were strewn with empty bottles and wrappers. Such a shame people don't look after this place.

We decided to visit Las Siete Cascadas after spending three days in Sucre's centre and found it to be a nice change of scenery. We took local bus number 12 from Calle Junin behind the mercado central until the last stop (Alegria) for just 1.50 BOB per person (about 45 minutes to one hour total). From there, it's difficult to get truly lost, despite there being no signage to guide the way - just head in a general northwesterly direction from where the bus pulls into its final stop until you descend to the river bed (ask anyone on the way for a finger in the right direction if necessary). Working our way along (and often back and forth across) the river towards the bigger sets of falls was a enjoyable mini-adventure in itself, but scaling the rocks to reach the very top pools seemed quite difficult and we didn't attempt it. Bring sturdy shoes for the climbing and swimming gear if you'd like to enjoy the most accessible swimming hole (under the fifth set of falls, if recalled correctly). The falls themselves are not overly spectacular, but the gorge in which they're located is an impressive setting to spend half a day in.

The walk there was probably more an experience than the waterfall itself. As a lot of persons mention before - just keep going!

It´s near the city and with a beautiful landscape. A little bit dangerous to get down the waterfalls. Good place to have a picnic.

The hike to these cascades was well worth the effort! In total about 1-1:20mins to walk from bus to the pools (I walk pretty fast and did 1hour).Directions - it's not the most clearly laid path, but it's not overly difficult and will probably be people to follow...Take bus Q from calle Junin outside of mercado, go until the last stop (about 30mins?). Walk about 50m down the road and turn right, follow this for about 200m to a T intersection and turn Left onto a main dirt road. Follow this straight (straight!) for a while, about 20mins, past little tiendas and restaurants, until a 4 way intersection where straight is a dead end. Turn right and following this road as it curves around left and then right again (you will pass a red tienda called tienda siete cascadas). In front of you the road sort of ends at some houses, but there is a path to the right which takes you to the gorge in the distance. You walk downhill for about 10mons to dry river bed which is maybe Y shaped. A path continues straight ahead b/w the 2 forward river beds. Follow this path in the (right) river bed for about 5mins as you will reach the first pools.Pools 1-2 are dirty. You har to climb a little to 3-4, the up over more rocks to 5-6, then to get to the last pool follow a path on the right which goes into the bushes and you appear at the top of the cascade at the last pool. You can also climb the last cascade to a set of small streams where there are some small pools for a few people. Unlikely that anybody else will be at these. This last ascend/descend is the most challenging.Well worth the walk/sun for a few hours of relaxation and peace at the top.

When I first arrived at the waterfalls I was not impressed by what I saw. The first pool was very dirty and looked like laundry water. So we climbed up to the second one and it was full of garbage and also non-swimmable water. Again, we climbed and the thrid waterfall was beautiful!!! The water was sparkling blue and the water was so clean. I did the 1 day trek with Condor Tours, and it definately provided the results I wanted. You can climb the waterfall and do cliff diving as well, the water is very deep....it was an amazing experience!!

It is pretty difficult to get there, and then there are no big wather falls. But nice for a cold swim, and there aren't too many people.

We got restless studying Spanish so we decided to get some sun. Finding the correct bus to get on was an adventure. You have to take the Q bus. But wait, not that Q bus, the other Q bus! Apparently you have to take Q, but going 1 of the 4 directions. It didn't help that several bus drivers just didn't want to pick us gringos up. We finally figured out which one was the correct bus because there was a group of locals waiting right next to us who also wanted to go on the hike. We followed them onto the correct bus- one which a driver had told us was the wrong bus. At this point I don't remember which street the correct bus was on.The drive is fun and you go through the local market and get to see the outskirts of Sucre. It's easy to know where to get off because it's the last stop, in the middle of nowhere, and there are a bunch of other buses. Plus our local friends got off and told us to get off as well. We wound our way through the little neighborhood, bought some bananas for snacks, and followed our friends who were nice enough to keep beckoning us this way and that. You basically continue walking the direction you were going on the bus, and take a right when you reach the end of the houses. Then you go all the way down the big hill until you reach the creek bed.We are really lucky we had people to follow. When you get to the creek bed you're in a valley and can't see which way to go. We had to tell other lost people where to go as well. Just keep going upstream of the riverbed. You'l know when you get there, because there are people everywhere. There must have been at least 100 people hanging out and BBQing. In fact we and one other group were the only gringos! But it was a lot of fun wandering up the waterfalls. Sure, they're not huge spectacular falls, but a lot of fun nonetheless. The guys ended up swimming in the second to last waterfall, which they all regretted because it was COLD. I was the only one in my group who was able to climb up to the last waterfall. It is a weird climb up and a lot of people were scared when coming back down. There is a section where you have to lower yourself quite a ways down with your feet floating in midair, and you can't see anything either. So don't climb the last waterfall unless you've got a good stomach for heights! Before we left we tried some BBQ,got to play some weird string instrument, and also got a bunch of applause from the locals for climbing up a rock (because we had given them applause climbing down a rock lol). Overall I really enjoyed this hike. The way back was easy enough and there were plenty of buses to take us back. Though I'm not sure we had any chance of finding it without our new friends!

We went to Siete Tazas in Chile which features seven big waterfalls that feed into each other. That was visually spectacular, and so I thought that this would be sort of similar. Wrong. Firstly, the trail isn't anything special, but it does make for a nice day trip from Sucre. After seeing only city for a while it's also pleasant to see some of the countryside outside of Sucre. The waterfalls are very small, with only the tiniest of trickles pouring out. The water is also not the cleanest, and when we were there there was a lot of rubbish around the pool. There was a church group of kids and a teacher from Sucre who were also there, playing in the pool, and they were really friendly, even showing us the right trek to get to the other two waterfalls. Go, if you'd like to see something a bit different from the city, but I honestly would skip this - nothing special scenically and the nature isn't that stunning.

Quite dificult to find without a guide (our case) directly from the dinosaur site, locals event don't know where it is so they will send you approximate direction - we ended up in wrong valley :) but it's worth it, nice quiet place where you can swim and relax. I would go there again staying in Sucre.

I did a hike to the seven waterfalls with Bolivia Specialist and my guide was Franky. His English was fluent, so much so that he barely stopped talking all day! (He was very nice, but the constant talking was a bit wearing!) We saw 5 of the waterfalls, numbers 6 and 7 being too difficult to get to. They were OK, nothing to write home about, but it was nice just being out in the countryside and getting some fresh air and exercise.

This was a wonderfull hike from the dinosaur foot prints, down to the river and along the river all the way up to the waterfalls. Note that the upper waterfalls are more demanding to reach, but you can have a picnic and a swim by the lower waterfall. Everyone can reach that one. A nice and relaxing place. We made the hike together with the non-profit Condor Trekkers in Sucre. Of course you can go on your own, but going with Condor Trekkers means spending money for something good and having fun at the same time.
