Many travellers get awed by Buenos Aires, because it is not at all what they expect to see: it is so Frech! Indeed, in the beginning of the 20th century, Argentina was very wealthy. Well to do families and the Government hired French architects because they wanted BsAs to emulate Paris. A great example of this is 'Club el Tigre', by the Delta. It has recently been renovated and made into a museum. It is an incredible and well preserved piece of architecture. Well worth the side trip!
Visited last Saturday Jan 3rd. 30 pesos. This ellegant classic building is well worth a visit itself, regardless of any exhibition that may be on. In our case we were lucky to see some of the works of Paez Vilaró. Step onto the terrace that looks onto the river and feel the cool breeze. Also check out some of the installations in the well kept gardens surrounding the museum. Glamorous!
What a nice time we have spent at this museum! The building is jut majestic it is a old classic casino in Tigre that was converted into a wonderful museum. It is a must-do in Tigre. The building was the best! The art collection was good but rather small every piece was from argentine artists. It didn't take us long to visit the whole museum, there was not that much art to observe. Ideal for tourists coming from Buenos Aires willing to enjoy their day in Tigre. The train that departs from Retiro (downtown) will end up like 3 km away from the museum but there are taxis from the station, you could walk through the nice Paseo Victorica or take a ride on the tourism bus. Just enjoyed our day to the maximum!!!
A sensational attractive building with a high 2nd story balcony extending slightly over the Tigre River. What a feeling & a view! Once a former elegant hotel, now an art museum. Imagine staying there or attending a wedding in those days. The exhibit at our visit was of Carlos Paez Vilaro who passed away within the past year. View the limited art and enjoy the incredible elegant building and stroll the grounds. Then dream of days gone past there!
A little bit of the glamour of B.A. from the beginning of the century. Beautiful building. Excellent paintings from Benito Quinquela Martín, one of the best Argentine painters.
I always love this museum. A former casino, they styling is at once exquisite and elegant. The art collection is great, as one might expect, but for me the most incredible aspect of the art museum is the museum itself.... Its architecture is old-world, wonderful and the surrounding gardens and river view is outstanding.
The collection is limited but gives an insight of some Argentinian art. The most interesting thing is the building itself, it is amazing and it is located on the river bank, so great location and a great walk too. There's an entrance ticket but only 20 pesos and a lovely cafe on the terrace worth going for
I didn't really enjoy the museum itself as it was very similar to those back in city of Buenos Aires however the building itself is breathtaking. It is very parisian and was surprising to see such a lovely building in this small town.
On the bank of the Lujan river in Delta Tigre, this mansion built in the early 20th century hosts an extensive art collection of Agentinean artits.
the setting, the building, the grounds and the architecture.sadly it was closed the day we were there, but we will go back. took several good pictures, but neither mine those posted really do it justice.and according to other reviews I am interested in the history and art.
We were lucky to have an outdoor sculpture exhibit but the building, it's interior and it's collection is incredible... I would have loved to have been around for a night of dancing, maybe in the future. Easy walk along the riverbank from the main area of town.
This is a small art museum that was placed inside a former upscale social club. The building is beautiful with wooden floors, a curving staircase, and large chandeliers. The art collection is tiny – all local artists from South America. There is a nice view of the river from a large balcony on the second floor. The cost is 12 pesos (about $3).If you are in Tigre and have an hour to kill, it’s worth a look.
I am so glad they restored the building and are using it as an art gallery. This is a 19th century stately social club sitting on the edge of the Lujan river with arches and a walkway leading to a terrace by the river's edge. The views of the river, surrounding areas and the building are very good. The restoration work has been well done. The exhibit we saw was part of the MALBA collection. The guide we followed was very knowledgeable.
