We booked the mini-trek and hiked it with 18 other people. The glacier is amazing and a must see but it can be quite slow moving as you trek with those at varying levels of fitness. To ensure safety, everyone follows in a single line at a very calm pace. My husband and I were asked to slow down as the guide worried the others might have tried to keep up so I was a bit bored as we couldn't stray too far from the group either to take photos. If you do any hiking at all - this is dead easy and you may want to book the big trek or even a private guide... Anyway, come see it - it's quite amazing.
A must if you're around. very recommended to stay a few hours and wait for the small collapses of the glacier's parts. a spectacular sight to see. The constructed road here goes around the glacier and looks over it from various angles. Amazing place for photography.
This is a site that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of fitness, health, mobility or any other reason you can think of not to visit this spectacular glacier. An extensive walkway system enables visitors to enjoy the panorama from a number of angles and levels. There are numerous viewing platforms including wheelchair access, so everyone who can make it to the site can enjoy it. An optional boat ride up to the South Face of the Glacier is also another way to see the Glacier from a different angle. About 90 minutes drive from El Calafate on a good sealed road. There is no charge to actually visit the site but a fee is payable to enter the Los Glaciares National Park. Well worth a visit.
They don't care how fit you are, it you are over 65, you are too old for them! Fat, young people are OK with them. They seem to have a monopoly at this site for getting on the glacier. Do yourself a favor and don't do business with such blatant, rude discrimination!!!!!
Loved our visit to the glacier and got some fantastic photos. We took a private tour from El Calafate and it was well worth it rather than a group tour. We walked around all the different vantage points which have great views of the glacier. 2-3 hours on the site are enough to appreciate this incredible site.
Impressive, it worth the trip from Calafate. We did the alternative tour with small trekking approach. Tour on boat is nice but maybe a little bit overpriced.
This location is one of natures best places I have ever visited. It is hard to imagine the immensity of the glacier face until one approaches by one of the regular boat excursions. The sights and sounds are indescribable and just have to be experienced first hand. The glacier is quite active and regular cracks, ice-falls and creaks can be heard and observed. It flows down a wide (5km) valley and splits into two lakes either side of a peninsular. This peninsular has a number of platforms and walkways that provide a variety of views to either glacier face. At the time of our visit there was a flow of water between the lakes but it is said the glacier can flow and extend to close the gap. A restaurant can provide refreshment and toilet facilities and buggy and wheel chair access is severely limited. For those of a more enthusiastic nature walks (with crampons) on the glacier can be arranged with specialist guides.
If you are in good physical condition take a walking tour on the Perito Moreno Glacier, you wont be disappointed. It is majestic!!!! You can see how are we affecting climate but also how nature works. Is ok to see the front of the glacier is you can't compare it to walking on top of it. This is a must experience and when I can I will go back.
This is a day trip from El Calafate that is a "must do" for ages 10-65. We used Hielo y Aventura as the tour company and we extremely happy with all of the arrangements. After a comfortable bus ride, we boarded a boat to cross in front of the glacier before landing on the far shore. We were met by our guides on the far shore and split into groups depending on the language spoken. The tour included a walk on the glacier in crampons, which were fitted to each individual and included a "lesson" which is very elementary in nature. The guides were extremely cautious, informative, attentive as well as fun. It was breathtaking!! (This walk should be only done by someone who is in decent shape and has good balance, as is warned by the tour company. Hiking on a glacier is a risky adventure if not done with some appreciation for the dangers. ) After a packed lunch and time to soak in the glacier and hear the calving of ice sections, we were taken by bus an area where we could see the top of the glacier and surrounding mountains. A very thorough tour done by a very professional company. Don't miss this glacier if you are in El Calafate!!
Arriving at the Perito Moreno Glacier, it was still unfathomable how enormous it truly was. Walking around the different vantage points gives visitors a better understanding, but the size is truly awesome. Seeing the beauty can not be put into words or pictures. Seeing calving in person was just spectacular. Recommendations: go early to avoid crowds. I was the only one there for about an hour and hearing the water and calving made it even more spectacular. Also, this was one of my last stops before Antarctica. Yes; this glacier is awesome, but if you are going to Antarctica and are going out of your way to see Perito Moreno, you can skip it. I'm glad I saw it, but it was expensive, time consuming and you will get your fill of glaciers in Antarctica.
