Grettislaug/Reykir are two hot springs "in the middle of nowhere" & are a great stop-over if you're camping. The campsite is tiny, but very cosy (wooden hut with heating, hot showers, electricity & WC). A great thing to do there is take a midnight dip: you hear the ocean (the hot springs are separated from it just by a thin piece of land & a tiny stone wall to protect from direct wind) & even if it's raining (like it was while we were there), it's even more cosy in the warm water of the springs. Well, ok, maybe take an umbrella with you ;-)Another cool thing (well, actually two things), if you have a bit more time: hire a kayak & explore the shoreline or take a ferry (departs in the morning, check with the "reception" in the restaurant) to Drangey Island - we didn't do it, but it you're not on a tight schedule, take your time & enjoy the option this rather "icelandically remote" place has to offer!

The place is nice, cafe and some Icelandic cake. No tours except for bigger groups ordering with longer notice this time of year but much more to do in summer. The pools are really good but you have to be prepared for the changing facilities are very primitive :-)

Fantastic place in the middle of nowhere! 16 km on a bumpy road - and a hot spring in a fantastic place! Will come again soon!

Traveled out the terrible road from Sauderkroker in the rain and it was worth every jolt. Even midsummer there were very few in the campground which had quaint turf roofed huts for bathroom and dining room. The rain stopped and the wind dropped and this place became idylic, with a great view over the fjord and islands. The hot pots were hot but you could find warmer and cooler spots. We had a soak after setting up camp, and a nice coffee in the little cafe which is open til 10.00pm then I had another quiet dip the next morning, with birds all around. You can also stroll along the cliffs or along the beach which is pleasant.

Experience was once again one of a kind. Still amazed of the fact that those "pools" are heated by earth. It is a 20min drive from Saudarkrokur on a small bumpy road, but totally worth it. There are changingrooms available but not lockers. It is a short walk from the changingrooms to the pools, it might get cold in just a towel and bikinis!

If you visit northern Iceland I recommend you to try this natural hot bath. The road to get there is not the best, but you can enjoy the beautiful valley driving to the destination. The pools are made over the hot springs. It is such a natural feeling to sit there by the sea level in the hot water, watching the mountains and listening to the birds and the waves. This was my second trip to Grettislaug and I would go back again. Monica

This was the best thermal pool, and hot it was that I visited on my trip to Iceland. You know why this was the best, well it was in a magical place, a little out the way. The road you travel down ends at the thermal pool, right next to the fjord, and it is all natural. Not many people get out this way and I was there around midnight only one other couple are using the thermal pool.If you are in the area, and need to refresh please take the 15min detour to this place, you can even camp right next to the thermal pool, which would be an added bonus. Loved it!

A really nice hot tub in an isolated place, about 12 km drive pass the sheep farms (drive carefully, sheeps can be all over the road here...) from the main road. Beautiful scenery with the mountains on the other side and sea on the other, the tub is just on the sea shore. We were the only visitors as it was October, and could bath in peace. There is a small entrance fee (pay at the café or if it is not open, use the box near the pools). You can change clothes in a very small toilet or outside behind a wooden wall (as we preferred). There are two hot pools next to each others, the Grettislaug and Jarlslaug (a bit bigger, square-formed). The water was about 38-40 C, you can find the very hot spot on the bottom of the pool if you try. This place is probably much more crowded on summer time, as there is a camping place just next to it.

Leider muss man hier Eintritt zahlen. Das Wasser ist jedoch angenehm, glasklar und heiß. Duschen sind vorhanden. Das Panorama entlang der Küste ist fantastisch
