Elwira was superb. We visited as a family with two young children and had a fantastic afternoon. One of the highlights of our trip. Elwira was very friendly and made the riding great fun with plenty of trotting and and bit of cantering too which the children thought was great fun. The horses were good natured but lively enough and the area we rode through was outstanding. Highly recommended,
We really enjoyed our one day ride tour with Nupshestar! We felt very welcome, the hospitality of the family were wonderful. We were four people with very different riding experience but that was no problem for Nupshestar, we all felt that we got horses that fit with our riding ability and the horses were all very friendly! Great nature to see around the Nupshestar area!
Elwira and staff were super friendly. Our kids 4+7 loved it. We should have just had more clothes on, since the wind was very cold
I booked the Rettir via Laxnes, and checked the Nupshestar website to find more information. Elwira and Svenni and their families welcomed me into their home, arranged riding and other activities very efficiently and safely. Even when I could not ride on one day, there was still plenty to do. Horses were very sweet, at least the ones I rode. I found one horse, which I liked a lot and then mostly rode her. There are water proof jackets and trousers for loan, and I highly recommend taking advantage of them. Weather changed all the time. Food was delicious, there was plenty of it and sandwiches were always provided during rides. Accommodation was in a summer cottage, beautiful scenery and fresh air. Sheep round-up was a great experience, such great opportunity to be part of the group. Just wear layers of clothes and stay warm. Some riding skills would be beneficial, but horses were so good that even with little less experience one can ride and enjoy the trip.
Like another of these reviews I booked the 3 day trip Heart of Iceland via Laxnes, so I was quite surprised that the tour was organized by Nupshestar. However, Laxnes put me in touch with Elwira who was very efficient.I booked this as a surprise on my honeymoon for my wife and she has still not stopped talking about it. The staff put in a lot of time with every aspect of the tour, and as a result everyone had an amazing time (they even booked the sun). This ranged from Elwira taking the time to back read my emails with Laxnes and surprising us all with bubbly on the first night; the careful selection of the horses to match each rider and so ensure we all had an enjoyable, but varied experience; the provision of an enormous amounts of delicious food; taking photo's throughout the tour and sending us a link a few days later and having the local knowledge to add some detail to the stunning landscape we were riding through.Thank-you to the whole team (including Sveinn's mum)! We hope to return in the future. Hope that the Round Up went well.Visited September 2014
I booked the 3 day trip Heart of Iceland via Laxnes, so I was quite surprised that the tour was organized by Nupshestar. Nonetheless, I quickly realized it didn't make any difference or actually maybe made things even better since it's always nice to support smaller local companies. The trip was awesome and everything went really smooth. The food was delicious (and there was plenty), horses were sweet and easy to handle and the staff was exceptional! Thanks for the whole team, you are doing an amazing job :). Hope to do a longer tour with you some day!
I would echo the effusive comments of previous posters - the staff are welcoming and friendly and the horses are well trained and beautiful. My family (2 adults + kids 12 and 11) went on a 4 hour ride. Our guide was exceptionally good with the kids and they were given gentle, docile horses. The scenery was just stunning. Twenty minutes into our ride we began following a fast flowing, glacial river. The trail passed along some rapids and made for a nice stopping place. After a bit the trail crossed a large prairie and continued along the road to a large, spoked rock pen where sheep are herded and sorted each fall. Very cool. Towards the end of ride we crossed a small stream which was a highlight for the kids. On a trip full of amazing experiences Nupshetar was among the top highlights.
We just came back from the 3 day Heart of Iceland tour that we booked through Laxnes but that was operated by Nupshestar. I can't even begin to describe how awesome this tour was. The horses are so well-trained and relaxed! They keep calm in any circumstances while riding them is far from being boring. They all have such good spirits. Elwira let us try different horses on the tour which was great to see the differences. From the moment we got to the farm and were greeted with a fabulous lunch (that was followed by several fabulous snacks, dinners, waffles, cakes...) we felt more like guests than tourist. The whole tour was just beyond amazing and even exceeded my already high expectations. I totally recommend it!
We had a private 2 hours riding tour for our group of 4. I booked it in adavance by email ( Elwira promptly replied to my questions). It was one of the best horseback riding I have ever had ! Not only Icelandic horses are very nice, obedient and comfortable, they are also very willing to work. I also appreciate that they are friendly with eachother and not afraid of anything (usually horses tend to fight with eachother and sometimes they are unpredictable). They are so reliable and smooth that you are never scared of falling. I wanted a riding tour for experience riders and they chose horses that fit to our level perfectly ! Me and my boyfriend had energetic horses so we had plenty of time to tölt, trot, paice and galop side by side. Our friends had slower and easy horses and they were pleased too.Elwira his a lovely girl who takes time to explain all about her farm and her horses, and we also learnt a lot with our guide during the riding trip. The landscape is amazing like everywhere in Iceland.I'm so pleased that I chose Nupshestar for our horseback riding tour !
I had an amazing 3 hour ride. I`ve been riding for about five years and I must say that horses are very obedient and unexpectedly comfortable. If you come here, you definitely have to try tolt, special horse walk that only Icelandic ponies can do. The nature around farm is beautiful and one of the most entertaining things is crossing a river. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and spoke English very well. I also love that they took photos, since you can`t take any bag with you. The photos look great and are a priceless memory of the superb adventure.Depending on the duration of your trip you should dress warm enough and have something waterproof in case it starts raining.Thank you all again for the amazing time I had with you!
Everything except from the rain was perfect! Very professional and amazing trip. Was away for 3 days with great horses, very good food and service and super professional guides. Thanks to Svenni, Elwira and their team
3 days horseback riding trip with Nupshestar to the inland of Iceland was an unforgettable experience. We were a group of 6: four grownups and two teenage girls. The owners Elwira and Sveinn, together with their staff, treated us as friends, from their hearts, as well did their horses, a herd of 19 beautiful and willing animals . All our gear was 1st class, saddles and reins, as well as waterproof garments, new, clean and well kept.Food offered is special, served the old fashioned Icelandic farmer style. Meat from their farm as well as homemade bread, jam and smoked lamb. Also vegetables from the neighbouring farmer. Two nights were spent in a mountain hut.Riding 35-40 km a day is unique, uphill and downhill, black sand or crossing rivers…... We are grateful to Elwira and Sveinn to offer us this wonderful opportunity to experience the Icelandic nature in the most charming and delightful way. Sævar Karl ÓlasonReykjavik
The ride with my daughter 16.7 exceeded my expectations. we got to ride in an hour from first contact. We were first timers and they really took the time to adjust the saddles and telling us how to ride and mount etc. In the 1 hour ride we got to cross a deep river. Watch out, you might need dry shoes : ) Complimentary photos that I received today were great quality shots. The family and our co-rider were really friendly. To top it paying with credit card is convenient. I usually never give reviews but feel compelled to now.Thank You for creating an experience instead of just renting a horse : )
We had a wonderful 1 hour horseback riding tour with our children. Elwira, Svenni and the guides Zoe and Stefanie made a great experience for all of us out of that. Even our 4-years old son could ride his own horse and got his "private" guide. We also appreciated, that they took a lot of photos from us. The farm is a bit off the main roads but it is well worth the trip. It is nicely located by a hillside and the people are great. Not for the least it is good value for the money.
Elwira and Svenni organized a 3-day private tour for our group of six women in early June, 2014. They managed to find the right horses to accommodate the different levels of experience with horses we had in the group and made the tour an unforgottable exprience for all of us. We rode through beautiful Icelandic landscape, crossed rivers, climed up hills and inbetween saw beautiful waterfalls and other interesting sights. The promise for a full board during the tour was more than what we had expected: delicious meals made from local ingredients. The overnight stays in the mountain huts were also nice. And at all moments, Elwira & Svenni and their team were friendly, professional and patient. The horses we rode were well trained and treated - a pleasure to ride. We wish all the best for Nupshestar and can warmly recommend their tours! And wish to be back ourselves!
