Wow, black sand beach, big cave, remarkable basalt rocks. The sea is incredibly stormy and the waves can be quite dangerous. The rock formations are amazing. There is a cafe there also, serves pretty good soup, great for a cold day.
Scenic place and offers plenty of photographic opportunities. Halsanefshellir is a vaulted cavern on the beach of Reynisfjall/Reynisfjara (black sand beach) (see attached writeup found at black sand beach). To view it, approach from the carpark right at the end of road#215 (Reynishverfisvegur; Reynir). The carpark is just beside black sand beach (Reynisfjara). From here you could view Reynisdrangar (3x sea stacks), Halsanefshellir (vaulted cavern) and the entire black sand beach (Reynisfjara). They are currently building a visitor's centre at the carpark (as of Jun2014).
This sea cave is made from colums of basalt on a beautiful black sand beach. It is a very remarkable place. You can walk into it to see teh hexagon shaped colums kind of like honeycomb. You can also climb up the side on the columns. I was told that in the summer you can see puffins here too.
