Not many people know that this church is one of the oldest holly places in Belgrade! On that place was one holly place for the Kelts who built the Belgrade fortress. Assume is that that was because of the water that heals. Now it is one of the most beautiful churches in Belgrade, and definitely on the most beautiful place.
It was difficult for me to find the place, it seems to be hidden from main road , at the edge of the belgrade fortress. Anyway fascinating chapel, as it was full of priest and people could not take photos. A chapel must be visited.
very nice chapel to visit in Belgrade. I think its the biggest orthodox chapel in the world if I am not mistaken
This lovely little chapel is tucked away on a cliffside just below the main Fortress and slightly below the tiny ivy-covered Ruzika Church. The mosaics inside this little chapel are exquisite and well worth a visit. (No photos allowed inside the chapel itself.)There is a patio in front of the chapel with benches on which to sit and relax. To the right of the chapel are two tiny candle halls. The detailed mosaics are among the most beautiful I've seen anywhere!
I admit to being very fond of Saint Petka so that anything to do with her is good. For the general tourist this is an attractive chapel with some interesting icons.
Apart from the lovely and touching church one can buy really nice icons there, was in various balcan countries, but nowhere found such beautiful icons as here in the enclosed shop, my favourite one is jesus christ behind glass coverage and reliefs, which cost unbelievable approx 30 Euro, just go in find yours : ) not only a nice piece of souvenir but also a wonderful focus for your religious practice at home
ıThis place has really lovely atmosphere. If you are in Belgrade, you must see this place for sure. Warm and small Church ı have ever been.
Charming place, which you can delight at any time of day or year. Sunrise, sunset, morning, evening, architectural lighting, atmosphere, smell - all this makes you want to go back and explore this place again in the new conditions.
Everything is special here...medievel walls, gates and towers...atmosphere is special...candles, smell of timian
It is beautiful little church with really nice surroundings. Great for sunrise and sunset time as it has great panoramic view of the confluence of Sava and Danube river and New Belgrade. In middle ages, this was the site of a church where the holy remains of St. Petka’s (Paraskevi) were placed until 1521. The Chapel, rebuilt on the site of former church in 1937., still guards the Saint Petka’s hand, and people come to wash their face at the spring as it believed to be able to cure the ill.
This was my favorite place in the Fortress, but it is tricky to find. The Chapel is beautiful and quaint. You won't spend much time inside because it is small, but it is worth a visit.
I'm not sure exactly why it is rated so highly on TripAdvisor and think I must be missing the point. It's a church which is quite nice. Not sure I would recommend it unless you have some vested interest.
We visited this small church this summer expecting far more to see. We don't know what exactly, but wanted to see why it was first on TripAdvisor. Water fountain was fine, so it was nice, charming and that's it.
If you like old churches this one will take your breath away.On a sunny day it is absolutely gorgeous!
This is a small orthodox cathedral beneath the walls of the Belgrade fortress! Regardless of your religion, you should visit. The mosaic walls are simply beautiful and this place give you the sort of internal peace, that makes you forget you are in the center of a big noisy city!
