Excellent Ski Resort! Large area, great food and a good mix of Ski runs and lifts. Easy to get too from the hotel.
After having been to Damuls 40 years ago we decided to enjoy a week's skiing there again. The skiing and snow is fantastic , some of the lifts are getting a little too old and are slow. But the new lifts are very nice. For experienced skieérs there are some interesting decents. Lot of ski tours and off piste possibilitiesThe nicest thing about Damuls is that everything is relaxed , no cues in the morning the pistes are not busy and pistes are groomed perfectly. Next year I will return :-)
Slopes were well groomed. Lifts were new and did not break down. We skied on the Saturday which was awful due to all the locals coming up and it being very busy and people skiing far too fast.
Good Ski lift system from Uga, not the over expensive ski pass. Good signage, friendly mountain huts and fabulous scenery. Red runs seem ok but unfortunately all blue runs involve long flat stretches and even uphill terrain in places. ( Skiers using sticks to push themselves uphill ). Unless you are skilled at uphill snowboarding dont bother !
Liked it again this year. There could have been more snow- and at 10am in the morning 2 snow guns were still running. Coming down to Damüls after lunch you feel that artificial snow on the runs. However there are a number of great runs, in different colours (blue/ red/ black) that are challenging. And on the top- don't miss the views over the Austrian/ Swiss mountains. Beautiful.
Thankfully undiscovered by most tourists this resort caters for most weekenders from Austria and Germany. Except at New Year it is very quiet during the week and you can put in some real serious miles. It's a decent size at just over 100km of piste and with varied terrain. Great for the kids - we've been coming here for 8 years - long enough for them all to become better than me. The ski school is excellent, there are great places to met on the slopes and I feel comfortable letting the kids 'off the leash' to ski on their own.
Then again, compared to France or Switzerland this ski area is not that big. If you want to go on a social ski trip, Austria is the place to be. Loads of different restaurants and bars there. Lot of social drinking between or after skiing. Both villages are still old villages but a lot of houses have been added. They don't have a real centre but usually all places you go to have friendly staff. The area is not very high but usually good for snow, when it's bad weather in Mellau it can be good in Damuls and vice versa.
very nice sky resort. mostly very sunny. as Damüls is now conected with the Mellau Skyresort it is bigger and has a lot to choose from.
So..."Snowiest village in the world". After reading that on the internet and reading that a new gondola connected the resort to other surrounding resorts I just had to check this place out. It wasn't as large as the resorts I normally visit, mainly distance from peak elevation to bottom, but it all worked out. While the runs were shorter, they reminded me of Tahoe. Bomb a run down, head back up and choose a different line down. And I always seemed to come down onto a run after getting off-piste for some fresh lines. Was there one day to check it out with a friend and the visibility was terrible. So, decided to stay on the runs and just head as far left as possible before heading to the complete other side of the resort. Was a blast. The runs and lifts flowed as smoothly as the snow under my board. To say this places size isn't deceiving in a complete understatement. It is GREAT. If you like fresh deep snow. GO. Get away from other people and explore a bit. Look for steep, but look before you leap. The views were sh$% on my first day here, as that I couldn't see anything, I used the first day as a resort learning day, where to go again, where the steep areas are, cliff drop areas are, tree runs, and where it seemed the fewest people went. By days end the fog and snow cleared slightly and the awesomeness waiting to be unveiled, was. The last few runs were unbelievable. I was completely alone in the area I found. No other tracks, trees, and terrain not typical of that I have experienced here in the German, Austrian, Swiss alp region. Went back to this resort a couple weeks later and had an amazing day in the sun. Views...wow. Snow...harder. But still found some great runs. Wife loved it. Will be back, and will be taking more friends here to show them this beauty of a resort! Trust me....GO. Get as far left on the map as you can, then get all the way right and enjoy the untouched runs. Far right!! Far right! Off-piste, tree runs to the bottom! Wow.
Super mooie geprepareerde pistes. Alleen maar stoeltjes liften en 2 gondels. Hele mooie afdalingen. Qua skieen niets op aan te merken! Prijs kwaliteit is goed.
