We arrived in November so there were no guided tours but it was open and we were allowed to wander around the museum with its artefacts which are housed in a beautifully restored building. We found it very interesting. The young man at the counter was willing to let us try some of their wines and was very knowledgable about the wine and it's production.
It is of course better to have a guided tour here. It is a nice museum. There is an entrance fee. But the best part is to have an opportunity to taste the local wines here.
it costs just 2 euros to enter, worth it to try the local wines before you buy. Some of the local wines are a desired taste so try before you buy.
Costs €2 eachWalk round and learn about the wine process. A guide on hand to answer your questions.. All the wines are white but the colour changes with age.You get to sample the wines.. Any you like you can buy at a good price.. Competitive shop prices some cheaper
We visited Samos on a group visit (16 pax). We tried a few times to telephone to the Museum to inform them about our intention to visit the Museum just half hour before the closing time. No answer. We stopped our mini-bus early in the morning to inform personally the Museum's staff and request him to wait for us. A rude young man named Stavros with an agressive attitude refused to work overtime, although it was 26th October 2013 and for the next 2 days the Museum would be closed. He also refused to call the Museum's Director, although I explained him that as a Museum's director myself and ex vice-chairman of the International Comittee of Regional Museums, I had a special interest in that Museum. 5 minutes later I found the home telephone of the Museum's director and I called him. He was very reluctant to welcome and guide our group in the Museum just before closing time. I think it is a pity for a privately-owned and run Museum in an island like Samos to have staff that behave like public servants.
If you visit Samos, even for one day, it's worth paying a visit to this museum. The entrance fee is 2 eur and you can see very interesting tools and find out about the history of wine in that aria. For this fee you can also taste several wines that are produced there. At the entrance there is also a shop where you can buy the wine. The price is very small for what it's worth. The museum is located at about 1 km from the port aria and is very accesibile by foot.
