You can go by car, but it is best to walk from Kampos. Beautiful walk (less than 4 km), lots of flowers, the beautiful smell ... Do not forget to take enough water for the trip. Upstairs are 3 caves and two churches. The "right" Pythagoras cave is the bottom, the background for the first church. The path is a bit complicated, you have to climb about 2.5 meters over a rock. But it's not hard. From the cave is a beautiful view of the valley.On parking is refreshments for good prices.

If you drive a 2WD you must take the road from Votsalakia, there are some parts of the road that are gravel, but with some skils you will get al the way to the café close to the cave. If you have a 4WD you can take the road from Marathokambos, it is more fun unless you are afraid of hights! You get to the café on both roads. The walk from the café was disapontingly easy. We used 8 min up the stone stears with the youngest kid being 7 years old. But nice panorama from the caves. PS bring water... It is hot!

It is best to head towards the cave from the coast road at Kambos rather than try and reach it from the other side from Marathokambos. The track from Kambos is manageable in a 4 wheeled drive or bike, although we did walk from the little chapel about 30 minutes away. We originally took the signposted route from Marathokambos but had to turn back as it was just too rough.There are actually 2 caves, the easy one to get to is up 330 steps. The larger cave is hidden behind a rocky outcrop and is accessible from a track just beside the little chapel half way up the steps. It is a real scramble to reach it, including some vertical climbing up the rocks. Not for the fainthearted or those with a fear of heights. If you do make it, the views are amazing from the front of the cave, but beware the drop.

Since Pythagoras is my most favorite of all philosophers, visiting Samos and anything related to Pythagoras was on the top of my travel list. The Cave of Pythagoras is not easy to find or even reach if known where to find it. There are no hand rails and the steps are steep. I was climbing up the steps with both hands and felt like a mountain climber, all along trying not to look down. But I was determined to reach the cave and when I did I felt a sense of accomplishment. From the bottom of the mountain looking at the cave, all you see is a lone tree blocking its view. There is also a small whitewashed chapel built by its entrance that cannot be seen from the bottom either. Anyway, it was certainly an adventure getting there, and I am glad I did.

Walk through the country to the historical cave of Pythagoras. Lots of flowers and amazing views and an easy walk. While there check out the 40 steps church built in a cave. Then have a snack and a cool drink at the snack shack! Best done early in the morning, take some water and wear a hat!

In the mountains to the S/W of the island and fairly well signposted. The drive is a challenge in itself with mountain roads that 'cling' to the mountainside and are mostly dirt tracks with no luxury like safety barriers! (Having said that our little, two wheel drive, hire car managed) Finally you arrive at a small valley with car parking space and a taverna. Lots of information available, in many languages, as to how to find the caves. Looking up the mountain you can see two, typical, Greek churches and some steps which zig-zag up the almost vertical rock face. (More than 300 of them!). Although the description of how to find the lower cave was good, we failed. After scrabbling up various rock faces we made it to the right spot but failed to find the entrance as the instructions omitted to say that it was " behind the small tree" and not visible! Undaunted we returned to the steps and, after looking in the lower church, continued to climb. The upper cave and church are worth a visit and by the time we returned to the taverna we were exhausted. Two important points to mention: this is not a climb for youngsters or the faint hearted it is very steep and the steps have no handrail, or guardrail, to protect from the drop which would not be survivable. If you attempt this in the height of summer take plenty of water, with you, on the climb. The little taverna makes good coffee and has comfy seats!

Vi gik op til grotten fra kampos by, og det var en fin tur på under 4 km. Vi var afsted med 2 små børn som sad/lå i hver deres klapvogn, så turen derop tog lidt længere tid. Husk at tage rigelig med vand med.

difficili da raggiungere: provenendo da Marathokampos si affronta una strada sterrata in salita che sembra non finire mai (noi eravamo in scooter), poi si intraprende una serie di gradini per giungere a della grotte impraticabili (sono chiuse al pubblico alla buona). Non ne vale assolutamente la pene, per quanto durante la salita ci sia una chiesetta, e una in prossimità della grotte.

man kører ud af en lille grusvej ca. 4 kilometer, derefter er der en stigning der skal forceres til fods, hulen er nogle hundrede meter oppe i en klippeside. Der er en trappe derop, men den er stejl.

Van de grot zelf waren we niet onder de indruk, maar de klim naar boven wordt beloond met een prechtig uitzicht.

Besökte nästan grottan.Hade en väldigt fin promenad upp till grottan från Votsalakia som tar cirka en timme+ beroende på hur fort du går.Det går även att ta bil två tredjedelar av sträckan men då missar man en del av upplevelsen.Otroligt fin och vacker natur.Sista biten upp till grottan är en stentrappa utan räcken och den dagen jag var där blåste det en kraftig vind.Jag fick avbryta bestigningen när det var ca 25 meter kvar då jag var rädd att blåsa ner.Hur grottan var kan andra berätta.
