I can't really rate one beach as the best in Crete since I they are all different and I like all of my favourites just as much. This is one of them though. And it's well worth the kind of far drive from my moms house outside Rethymno.
nice turquoise water with a mixture of sand and stone beach (bring your water shoes?). Unfortunately almost all the beach is taken by sun-beds at a charge (bring a narrow towel ). The beach bar has a nice view and a big choice of meals and snacks.
One of the most beautiful seaviews in Crete - sea with different colours, smaller and higher mountains, whitish town a bit more distant and few vessels passing by. The water is still very warm in October but much less people around. From 3 pm the beach is mostly in shadow. Small beach when the water is high. Sunbeds 2.5 EUR. Come before 11 am so you can choose your place. Car park near and 5 minutes walk down. Several average-taste tavernas near.
Try this one for clear blue sea and peace and quiet quite a steep walk down but worth the effort. Beach has a car park and café/snack bar
just love this beach - crystal clear waters - you can hire sunbeds and parasols - there is a beach taverna above and toilets - car parking, bus from Ag Nik or taxi - but restaurants over the road are a must visit
Great beach, pure water, amazing view, but not so comfortable, too many sunbeds, and the sun goes behind the precipice after 4 p.m.
We only visited this beach late in the afternoon, but it is well organized with sunbeds and umbrellas. When we were there it was windy so biiiig waves!
Beautiful beach with crystalline waters. The beach bed floor however is made of pebbles, and the shore is a mix of pebbles and sand. You need to be aware however that you cannot access the beach except through a 3 to 4 minutes walk or a stair. I would surely recommend it even with kids
with local cantine, wc facilities, beach-beds, umbrellas, sand beach, stone beach, clean-salty water, water sports, diving, romantic sunsets
If you visit the Lasithi area and live near or around Agios Nikolaos, be sure not to miss this great beach. It has really easy access (and somehow easy parking) and you will not believe the waters there. I don't need to say more, the only detail is that you get to see two different faces of the beach depending on the local weather and wind. If there is no wind the sea is amazing for relaxing swimming with unbelievable color, but if there is wind then there are medium size waves that can make the swimming experience like a water park! It's very funny and quite safe since the water level is very low for the most of the beach!
We have visited this beach twice but sadly won't be back for reasons I will post shortly. The beach is self is lovely with great views and sunbeds available at 2.50 Euros a bed and 2 Euros for a parasol. If wanting to just relax on a beach then it is perfect however sadly on both occasions the sea wasn't as clean as the beach. It looked very inviting from the shore but when you got in to the sea there was a dirty film on the water and all sorts of rubbish floating in it. Jnr Jock managed to swim further out where she said it was clearer but I couldn't stay in as it was making me feel physically sick and I had a shower as soon as I got out. Last year it was the middle section of the beach that the sea was bad but at the Manolis Cantina end of the beach the sea was okay. This year when we realised the sea was full of rubbish again we walked up to the Manolis Cantina end over all the rocks and pebbles but sadly even in this section of the bay the sea was full of rubbish in fact there were photo's I took last year of Jnr Jock that I couldn't take as they would have been ruined by the floating rubbish in the background. As I said although it is a lovely beach we won't be back as for us the best part of a beach is being able to swim and jump through the waves in the sea. I found it really sad to see such a beautiful beach being polluted by human rubbish.
We have been visiting this beach now for over 10 years, and its probably one of the most beautiful and clean beaches that I have visited in Crete - the sand is soft and there are no pebbles in the sea , just a few rocks on the far right and left of the beach - there are a couple of tavernas on the road opposite the entrance to the beach which are very good - and convenient for lunch if you want to stay all day - and a small cantina above the beach which serves snacks, ice creams and drinks...... this beach does now get quite busy in the height of the season but if glorious in May and September when the crowds have gone :-)I have posted a few photos to show how crystal clear the water is at this beach :-)
we visited here about 3 times parked next to mistral mare hotel at the east end of istro .. just walked across the road passed the canteen area down the steps onto the sandy beach.sun beds etc for rent at local prices .. note canteen area can get busy around 12/2 pm so a wait is on the cards.west side of beach is predominant sand whereas going east it gets more pebbles there are two sections here you can go in opposite the mistral mare side or drive a short distance around the double reverse curves and take the walkway via a multitude of steps down to west side of the beach
We stumbled across this on our way back to Piskopiano from Mochlos. It is a stunning beach. It was packed, we could barely find a spot to lay our towels (all the sunbeds were in use). It is truly gorgeous and the amenities are all there, the people were friendly and there was a nice atmosphere. Despite the number of people around. I was able to chill out quite easily. A great find that I definitely want to visit again.
Nice sandy beach, warm sea, water clear as a tear, small rocky bays around with fish and echinuses ^_^ We loved this beach a lot. Definitely worth visiting!
