The most beautiful beach of the isand! You can reach through a path, which is very difficult, otherwise you can reach it by boat! You must bring your umbrella, water and something to eat because you will not find anything there! The water is crystal clear !!! will definitely be back!
Swim in crystal blue waters to small island. Beach is barely accessible by land, so its nice and quiet, but there are no facilities there. Get the boat from Karovastasis €8. Bring your umbrella for shade!
Avoid the hectic summer peak days when the boat fills the beach with visitors! Try Katergo, oof season, following the track from Livadi beach. It's easy to locate and easy to reach and the reward will be worth it!!!
We got the boat so as to reach to the beach. Even if the cost was quite expensive, I would definitely say that this beach worth the visit. It was amazing; crystal clear sea, calm beach without beach bars and a great landscape which combines the wild rocky nature with the blue sea. Just remember to be well prepared because you absolutely need to take your umbrella with you.
Besides Katergo beach, we've been to 3 other beaches in Folegandros: Livadaki, Ag. Nikolaos and Agali. The best one was Katergo. Unfortunately, we had to pay 8 euros per person (16 in total) for going and coming back. We did the same for Ag. Nikolaos (5 euros) and Livadaki (9 euros)-. However, all beaches are crowded.
You have to take a boat from the port in order to go to Katergo Beach. I have no idea how one would walk to get there. The boat charge 16 euros (at that time) return trip and the schedule is posted on the port. The ride is just about 15 minutes and the water and views are beautiful along the way. The driver even went very close to a cave for us to see (nice touch) - picture attached. Warning: there is absolutely nothing out there, when I say nothing I mean no shade, no food, no water, no bathrooms, no nothing LOL. So be sure to walk with snacks, water, umbrella, chairs, etc. Now that you're settled, let's talk about the water. Little chilly in July but probably the best I have ever experienced. OMG! You cannot not visit this beach. IT IS A MUST! The water is divine, crystal clear and extremely calm. No waves and no wildness just peaceful swimming or floating. Walk with goggles if you have. It was SUPER SUPER HOT and there isn't a sand bed on the beach, it's mostly stones and rocks which can get very hot so bare that in mind. Enjoy :)
Apparently, this is touted as one of the world's best beaches... So, what's good about it? The sea is clear and stunning; the rocky islets offshore form a semi-enclosed bay (and provide ample diving/jumping opportunities for the intrepid); there is no beach bar (so no music - hurrah!), no beds, no umbrellas, no rough campers. But ... the beach itself is no more than fine; not especially attractive, and no facilities (but see also above). Moreover, by the afternoon, it is pretty crowded, and given the effort involved in reaching it, disappointingly so; this is exacerbated by the excursion boat depositing its 100-odd passengers for an hour or so mid-afternoon.All in all, unless you have your own transport, I'd say there were better beaches on the island.
great beach, not a ton of people, great swimming, you can cliff jump from the rock outcrop in the bay.
Katergo beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Folegandros. It is sandy with pebbles in the sea. You can reach Katergo either by boat from Karavostasis (8 euros per person) or on foot. The path starts before the small village of Livadi. It is rocky and its last short part is steep. A map and proper footwear (not flip-flops!) are necessary. We used the path to get there. It offers a great view of the beach. Katergo is not an organized beach. You have to bring water, food as well as an umbrella with you. In high season it gets crowded at noon. So it is better to get there early in the morning on foot and leave by boat when the most people arrive.
On 31 st July i took the bus from Chora in Folegandros Island-scheduled approximately every hour- to go to the port "Karavostassi" paying each ticket 1,60 euros per each way .There i had to wait approximately half an hour ...that the boat to katergo beach would be foul filled paying for both ways 8 euros per person. After 15-20 min trip we reached the katergo beach where there is not any construction in order to step on the beach but you have to jump barefoot in the sea carrying all your staff with you (umbrellas, smart phones, tablets, books ,sandwiches ,cameras etc) taking the risk to have an accident and drop all your valuable staff in the water...And if it was risky 1 time jumping to the sand and sea it is multiple risky when you had to climb the narrow ladder of the boat having a gap of 35 cm between the sea and the ladder.Personally -as anyone else between the visitors there -we were wearing havanaias .I was stepping in the bord of the sea...carrying my athletic shoes with all the rest of my staff ( 1 umbrella on my hand and in side a big bag...1smart phone,1tablet,books ,1 camera ,2 towels etc and i had to climb the small ladder ...While trying this climbing my havanaias got off my foot and i had to try again carrying also my havanaias on my hand....I assure you that if i had not a help by a man of the boat my heavy bag with my valuable staff would be dropped in the sea.... Finally my personal opinion of the beach katergo is that this is a family beach,a little bit crowded not an isolated beach as i heard before having my personal experience...and me personally i ll never go there again to that overestimated beach.... I received today a non reply mail from the Trip advisor team announcing me that my review for Katergo beach would be not posted to your forum as you doubt about my personal experience....This is my first time that you refuse a review of me...I can not understand the reason why you did not accept my review....You say mistakenly i had not a personal experience...In the other part, you did not send me my review back in order i could revise it to the point you are not satisfied but always under the real circumstances...so that i had to remember approximately what was my previous review ...which now i am sending you more detailed...I would like to assure you that every time i write a review sending to you IT IS AFTER A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!Regards from a fully disappointed reviewer asking you when you are not accepting a review you have to send your refusing by a signed mail where i could answer in order not to less my time to find the way to reply to you by your faqs and guidelines etc...
The trip to katergo beach is only 15 min from the port of Folegandros and it is definitely worth it! It is a serene place with wonderful crystal water just below the wild rocks! Do not miss out when you visit the island, it will reward you!
You'll take a small boat from the port of Folegandros. The trip takes about 15' minutes and the destination is definitely rewarding!
It is an impressive beach, especially if you arrive early and find a nice spot. It is not organized so make sure that you have water and a hat or umbrella with you. There is no tree or any big rock to provide shadow!
You can either get to this beach by a half hour walk from the road or by boat from the port. The last part of the walk is down a very steep and uneven cliff path so unless you are pretty agile, get the boat. However you get there though, it's well worth it. Undoubtedly the most beautiful beach on Folegandros. By a long way.The water here is some of the cleanest, clearest I've ever seen. A snorkelling paradise. No facilities whatsoever at Katergo so take food and water. This beach should be the number one attraction on this island.
All visiting Folegandros should at least 1 time go to this beach...You will have to catch the Boat from KARAVOSTASI Port that goes approximately ever 1 hour to access the beach by sea, or if you want there is also a LONG path that Hikers use to access it by foot. Its all worth it because of its crystal clear blue waters, it is a paradise for swimming and snorkeling..My favorite beach in Folegandros.
