This is an amazing spot on the island and is well worth a visit. The village and cove is very pretty and there is this an amazing Venetian castle ruin at the top of a healthy hill climb which is well worth a look around.

A lovely place to visit while you are on the island but be careful as parking is at a premium and the road down to Assos is quite windy and sharp bends bu the view once you get down there is spectacular.

Visited Cephalonia inspired by Captain Corelli and not disappointed. Great to chill in the calm, clear waters and relax on the stony beach. Local food great, the freshest of seafood.

A beautiful and pretty village at the base of a steep road down. There is also a wonderful ruined Venetian castle which if you can manage the climb up which in the summer is a rather hot walk, the castle ruins are well worth a scramble round.

if you stay here then there are a superb selection of beach side restaurants and bars ... all the food we ate was good ... and fresh ... breakfast ... lunch ... and dinner ... A place to relax and enjoy ... for that purpose ... not a mad place ... although festival times make it impossible to leave and or get into ... only one road in or out ... and for that reason it gets very crowded ... limited number of places to stay in Assos itself ... we had a small cottage right on the sea front ... it even had a space reserved on the beach ... how cool ... you will need a car if you want to look around ... the food everywhere we went was good ... fish straight from the sea ... if you hire a scooter ... beware ... roads are very twisty in places ... and sometimes narrow ... can be very slippery too as Tarmac uses marble granules ... had a couple on a scooter come off right in front of me due to the heat on the road surface and the affect it had ... luckily they had helmets on and only suffered cuts and bruises ... scooter didn't look so good though

On Kefalonia there are many great places to see and with the landscape so varied there are stunning views around every corner. However Assos stands by itself. Take the winding road down from the mountain road to find a village nestled in and around the isthmus that connects the peninsula to Kefalonia, with many places to sit by the horseshoe shaped bay and eat, drink and be merry. The small narrow lanes have beautiful houses adorned with the many colours of the gorgeous bougainvillias. The Venetian castle ruins on the very top of the hill are well worth a visit and the new path leading up to it makes the task easier than it was some years ago and it is the stunning views at the top that will reward you for your efforts. Don't let a visit to Kefalonia go by without making the trip to Assos, it is well worth it.

Assos is special. Try to stay there for few days. At least I will next time. The whole topography of this place is unique. Perfect place to relax. Getting to the castle is a nice hike. If you end up staying in Assos make sure that you have a car. Fiskardo is only 30 minutes away and it is equally special with the advantage of some night life as well complementing perfectly the Assos tranquility.

Another one of our adventures, this time to Assos, what a lovely place to see and stay in. We travelled from Skala it took about 2 hours with a couple of stops and detour (wrong tern). We stopped at the top of the hill leading down to Assos to look at the view the beautiful coloured sea towards Mytos beach and Assos looked amazing a lovely little inlet/bay and the castle.Once we arrived we found ourselves some accommodation got changed and off to the beach for a relax and a glass of wine. Our room overlooked the bay and beach perfect so we camped ourselves there for the day, did some snorkelling walked around the village and just admired the view.It was not busy the time of year we went which was nice I could imagine it gets very busy at the height of season.A place we will return to one day.J & M

We drove to Assos it`s a very pretty little village by the sea.We parked the car on the free car park and walked down the road into the centre. You will find a road with a few bars / restaurants a small supermarket, a chemist and shops ?. There is a small bay with shingle beach and a small cove. The sea is a gorgeous turquoise blues and looks stunning with the coloured houses reflecting on the water. High above the sea on the top of the hill is the old castle walls and ruins. There is a good foot path to walk a long right up to the top. The views are fantastic the higher you go. Remember to take a bottle of water with you as there is nothing to buy at the top. No shop No toilets.Assos is worth a visit in October it was very quite I expect it could be very busy in the high season.Best restaurant in Assos we had lunch at was Nefeli-Anait with it`s blue and fish print table cloths overlooking the sea. The fish of the day was delicious and the view was perfect and good friendly service.

Long way off the main tourist route. Peaceful. Some nice little restaurants. Can swim in the bay (saw a lot of fish when we snorkelled).

This is a very pretty village and gets busy at the height of summer. Out of season it retains its charm, despite the large number of villas being constructed on the headland. The walk up to the castle is a must, the views from the top are spectacular. even though there's nothing to see inside except a spectacular "white elephant" EU funded conference centre, built at vast expense and now crumbling, never apparently having quite been finished or used. Even the superb block-paved road built to service it is starting to fall apart - but since one walks up, that's not a problem yet.

What a little gem. I'm so glad we found this place, dispite the road being closed! As my sister in law put it - I want to die here! There are plenty of resturants and the swimming is so amazing with crystal clear water and a clam bay.

Utterly charming little fishing port, very picturesque, though I think it might get rammed in high summer. Stunning views as you descend the approach road (mind the goats). Platanos restaurant is a winner, and he walk across to the castle is well worth the effort.
