This impressive natural wonder is one of the main attractions on the beautiful resort island. On the outside the cave is surrounded by the forest and on the inside a magnificent site opens: a rocky cave filled with crystal clear water. In Greek mythology the site is known as the Cave of the Nymphs.
one of the highlights of kefallinia. you have to pay a fee to enter, but you also get a guided tour with a small boat, really nice and coll for photos.
Very interesting place. Tha water down there is freezing but the colour is really amazing. Like in the photos. There is a fee to get there.
The unspoiled beauty of the place is something that you admire. The whole boat guide is a unique experience for all ages. Value for money.
Worth a trip, dont do it as part of a tour though as it lasts about 20mins. Paid 6 euros each I think and its probably worth 3 euros each in reality.
quiet area, greek mythology. when you sail with the small boat and look up you have a nice strange feeling
The melisani caves are a joy to visit, although it's not cheap, it's worth the money. When you go down to the bowels the boat men row you into the cave in small craft and you will be surprised just how clear the water is, beautiful, although the water is very cold. Some time in the long past the roof has caved in and the sun glistens on the water, which is superb. The best time to visit is on the afternoon which gives you a fabulous view. Although the visit is only short it is definitely worth the visit, especially when you combine the cave with a trip to Myrtos beach.
It is very small part of the sea in the cave that it happened after the earth quake. The water has impressive color due to the impressive whole at the roof of the cave. It was long line on the entrance but they are good organized so we didn't wait so long.
Absolutely Beautiful ...A definite must see..The water is soo clear and the boat ride was a pleasure. A lovely day trip then food by the sea
We went to the cave in the morning. You walk down a tunnel to the lake there are boats waiting to take you for a little ride. Your guide rowing the boat tells you the history of how the lake became to be here. As the sun came up the water changed to a lovely turquoise blue. We took some photos. We were there about 20 minutes.
Went to see this beautiful underground cave on an excursion. Well worth the money even though the actual time in the cave (on a boat with other holiday makers) was very short. The cave guide on the boat was excellent, kept joking and singing! A sight to behold.
Fabulous lakeThis cave fascinates at the first sight. The short trip by the boat takes you to the world of fairy tales and myths. It's better to visit the place till noon at this time you can enjoy as sun rays play and transform the colors of the lake. Do not forget to charge your camera in advance - it's absolutely fantastic place to take a lit of great pictures.
This underground lake is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. It is on the Ionian island of Cephalonia (Kefalonia)...it is somewhat remotely located and not over developed at all. You walk down, down , down (temps going down as well)...amazing stalagmites and stalactites (colorful and frozen) all along the downward cave route. Youc Po me to the spot where you are given a row boat...you can see the blue skies and clouds when looking up through the hole in cave/lake...you can row all around the lake, while admiring the glorious shades of blues and greens in the water. Totally like being on another planet. I have been here twice and hope to return within the next few years.
Better to go in good weather (no clouds). Our rower was really friendly but with very limited English - might be good idea to have a short historical description of the lake in Greek and then teach them in English as this is a must-see! (Entrance fee 7 euros and there is a souvenir store at the entrance. Although I was wondering if that appr. 10 minutes trip worth the price but I believe the lake is unbelievable, so...)
A short ride, but a beautiful and peaceful setting. Definitely would go back. The light rays on the turquoise water are stunning. The guides will take pictures for you and make the experience fun. A highlight of our time on Kefallonia.
