I have to say that is the only zoo in Greece of that kind, so ..but it is really beautiful, clean, a lot of animals and birds.Ideal for families with kids giving entairtainment and education. Beautiful walk outside of Athens, near Mc Arthur Glenn.

Outside of Athens,to the east of the city,in Mesogela, near the town of Spata, you will find the private,Attica Zooligical Park. This very nice park hosts about 2000 animals from 350 species, including birds, mammals, reptiles and insects from all five continents, combining entertainment and education.Highly recommended to pay a visit and see this park.

Ait is a great park with quite many attractions and many animals to see! The facilities are also quite good with food, coffee and toilets. It is a bit expensive but the number of attractions and animals are worth it.

I happen to come across the mention of the Zoo before my trip to Athens. I love Zoos and wanted to make sure we had a chance to go see it. We rode a few buses to get to the Zoo from Athens but it was well worth it. From up close encounters with Lemurs to The dolphin show. the Zoo has everything packed into it. All the animals seemed well cared for and the zoo sits away from the city so there is plenty of fresh air for them to breathe.I think that if you have a car it is much easier to get there as the buses are a bit confusing.

Kids under 10, never been to a zoo, love animals so it seemed the ideal place to visit. 60 euros for the 4 of us with tickets to see the dolphins. Got there early so not too busy. Great selection of animals, everything clean & tidy. Great facilities - food, coffee & toilets. Staff very helpful & not at all miserable. Plan to spend all day there. We got there about 11am & left at 3pm only because we had a 4-5 hour drive back home but quite easily could have stayed longer & re-visited the more sleepy of the animals from the morning! We worth the visit! Thank you AZP xx

I am a former neighbor of the park and have seen it's transformation. I must say from all the animal parks and zoos I have been in, this was the most attractive one for a simple reason: Animals seemed the happiest (that they can be in a closed environment). All animals are strong, fit and active, not like the usual half sedated animals in zoos! So, respect to the owners for their vision, keep up the good work.Tip. Enjoy a nice picnic in the large green open area!

There may not be too much to do in Athens for children - unless they are into culture. Great to find this zoo on internet (not mentioned in guide book). Bit of a trek from Athens - metro to Doukissis Plakentias then bus 319 (using Athens transport day ticket) - we had to wait 25 minutes for bus. Get off at stop after McCarthur Glen shopping centre then 10 minute walk. Good if website had more transport details. Zoo is 16 euros with 3 more for excellent dolphin show. Wide range of animals - many looked very hot (but it was August). Animal enclosures could be bigger. Pleasant to walk around for a few hours.

Located at Spata just at the suburbs of Athens...This is a great day out even if you are a solo traveller...Very big animal collection, plus a show with dolphins and sea lions....don't miss the lemurs, the reptiles with the huge Nile crocodile on display. Also, white tigers, brown bears wolves and so so many other animals there...Additions are made occasionally so stay tuned!A nice cafeteria in the middle of the park can be the finishing touch on your day out at the Attica zoo park. Also, one of the biggest bird collections in Europe...

A complete disaster! Green - dirty lakes , very thin animals , rude staff, unsafe for young children as they go too fast with golf cars.

I was so excited to go there, because the reviews sounded really amazing, but at first, going there with a metro and a bus was like a nightmare. You need to be on the metro for 30 minutes, then you need to take a bus for 40 minutes and since zoo's webpage doesn't say the bus stop, where to get off, we needed to figure it out by ourselves. Once we got off at the right bus stop, we had to walk quite a lot to get to the zoo. On our way there, we saw a dead dog. Not the best beginning for our experience!I think the zoo is actually smaller than advertised, because I thought it will take us hours to walk around and see the animals, but it took like an hour or so. Mainly because half of the cages were empty and half of the animals were hiding. Most of the zoo is filled with birds from different areas in the world and in my opinion it's not very interesting. The zoo itself is clean and has a lot of benches if you want to sit down, but the price is too high for that experience. They should make the bathrooms better and have a nice cafe to eat at, because this shop there was horrible! It had nothing normal to eat, just cookies and ice cream. Workers in there were impolite and not friendly at all! Also, I think that having a special bus coming from the center of Athens to the zoo would be nice and make it much easier for people. After leaving we had to wait around 30 minutes for the only bus to take us back to the metro station.I would suggest visiting it in the spring or autumn, because summer is too hot for the animals and there isn't as much to see. Even the giraffes were hiding and were far away. I was really hoping to get a better experience. If you have been to other zoos in Europe that are amazing, then you may not be happy to pay that much for that zoo.

Having regularly visited great zoo's like San Diego, Frankfurt, Zurich etc, I was surprised to find a smaller, but decent zoo in Athens.Besides having a great collection of birds and other specials (white tigers, jaguars, bird of prey show or educational dolphin show for kids), it has a good space for some species, ie savannah (zebras, oryx, giraffes etc) or bears and shimpanzees. Some predators and birds clearly lack space, but I've experienced much worse in many of Europe's zoos. The staff at ticketing and cafeteria is quite apathic unfortunately.Overall, a good place to go with children and we go there mostly on cooler days.Do avoid in very hot weather, as hardly any shade around and if you go at least 3x a year, simply buy the annual ticket.

I am not a big fan of zoos. However due to the insistence of the rest of the members of my family I have visited quite a few. The one in Spata, Athens, has proved to be a real fun day out. Though the actual zoo is not as big as similar ones in other European countries, it still hosts a large variety of animals in what appears (in my humble/ I know nothing about opinion) clean and pleasant enough (for the animals) environment. A specific feature we enjoyed was a fake jeep, sort of entering half way the lion cage, giving you the change of a real close up with a lion when you are in the driver's seat. Additionally we enjoyed the dolphin show, again because of the chance to sit very close to the pool (and get wet on a hot day- excellent!).What would improve the experience would be: cheaper tickets, cheaper zoo shop and more trees...we were lucky enough to have cloudy weather, I believe that on a sunny day it will be very hot and unpleasant.

A greta experience, very nice place to visit at athens. The only negative was the cafe which was not clean (tables were not clean and chairs her and there, the staff of the cafe was just chating with other staff and actually did not work, leaving the cafe in a mess).I visited the park mid of june 2014

A beautiful place full of interesting animals with excellent facilities. We go at 6pm. It was a good time cause most of the animals are in action. Very funny place the Big Cage with the lemurs that you walk inside of it and they come to you to play with them. Giraffes, penguins, bears, lions, white tigers, black panthers and many many other animals where all there. I hope the next time I will meet some Elephants there also! If you are in Athens you have to visit this place for sure. Many pictures at the Facebook Page will convince you.
