This tiny temple, located on your right when you enter the Acropolis via the Propylaea, is almost always overlooked, as everyone is so eager to see the (somehow overrated) Parthenon.Still, it's worth your while to stop for a couple of minutes and examine this little 2400 year-old gem.
Small temple see at the entrance to the Acropolis but rather neglected by the guides but well worth exploring.
On my way to the Parthenon, all the way on top of the Acropolis mountain, our tour guide shows us this ancient temple of Athena Nike. Because of the location, this temple can view from far, but because of th size of the building (compared to Parthenon) difficult to recognise. Ruins, but still the building there. The frieze of this temple now preserved at the new Acropolis museum. When I visited the museum, our guide showed me that and explained the dynamically sculpted frieze shows scenes of battle. Worth a visit.
When you stand in front of the temple, you have to wonder about the many myths that we have heard and read about. It makes you think about just how creative and imaginative people must have been to build such beautiful temples and buildings.
Overshadowed by the Parthenon and view from the Acropolis. I liked this quiet spot (because it's winter, I guess). Wish I can enter and imagine that I am a priestess. the statues in front are replicas, and the originals are in the museum.
This gorgeous temple is well-preserved, and a dedication to the goddess of victory in war, Athena. You will see it as soon as you enter the Acropolis before the Parthenon
Such a treat to walk up the stairs through the massive gateway entrance – the Propylaea. We entered the Acropilis the same way the ancient Athenians did.As we entered we saw the Temple of Athena Nike to our right. This was the earliest “Iconic” temple on site. Athena was the goddess of victory in war and wisdom.Simply Amazing!
The Temple of Athena Nike is small and might be overshadowed by the other temples, even including the Parthenon, but its still quite a sight to see. I loved when you are at the bottom of the hill you can still be able to see the temple which pairs perfectly with the Parthenon. If you are checking out the Acropolis, please take the time to check out this beauty of a temple!
The Temple of Athena is the smallest and the most interesting one.As a part of the whole picture it is very much outstanding due to it`s small size.
Of all the temples I saw in Greece, this one was by far the loveliest. Surprisingly small given that Athena was the patron goddess of Athens.
The temple of Athena is my favorite temple. eve though the size is small the details of the columns are amazing. I found that this temple to be a real masterpiece.
The temple of Athena Nike is the smallest of the structures on the Acropolis. It is so "clean" compared to the others. It is also still very well in tact compared to the Parthenon. It can be seen from most angles of the acropolis from below. It was dedicated to Goddess Athena and one can imagine that she was important enough to have the city named after her. I don't think many people walk back towards this temple, but rather wander along to the Parthenon and Erechteion further on.
Probably one of the most beautiful temples that I have seen in Greece. If a Temple can be anthropomorphised, this temple would surely be the great goddess herself.A lot of tourists tend to think of what Greece has to offer as just Temples to be entered and tramped over. The true spirit of Greece for me, is what you feel first; and then what you see. If you open your senses at all these sacred places, you will feel what happened there centuries ago and much more. Give it a go.
Lovely sight at Acropolis. You cannot miss it on the hill even if you want to, but you will see it only close from the outside. I am not sure whether you can step in even after the restoration, but still it impresses you a lot. Beautiful ruins of the outside wall. That gigantic and that fragile on the high hill in the heart of Athens.
Beautiful to view. Make sure to walk all around the perimeter of the temple...it is really quite amazing. Much smaller than the Parthenon, but you are able to get a lot closer to it if you walk along the backside...I think that perhaps others did not do so.
