Great way to spend 2 to 4 hours. Upon purchasing your ticket ensure you ask for a English map. Although there are no English descriptions, the English name of all the animals are provided. I was able to look up each animal on my smart phone.

At €8 I cant really complain. Well priced for whats there. A good few hours spent with some animals you wont find at most other zoos. We visited last week so a lot of the animals werent very active but we knew that would be the case anyway. The lions were impressive, as were the red pandas. Definitely worth a look.

We spent the day here with my partner's godson. He had a great time seeing all the animals and dragging us around the place. It was a nice, small-ish zoo. The baby rhino was a highlight.

Although I'm not such a fan of keeping animals away of their natural environment I enjoyed my visit to the zoo. It takes a few hours to watch everything and there are some amazing animals. So go, have fun and respect every single animal...

The Zoo is great! There are lots of different animals in this zoo. They even have the WorlCup Animal that also lives in Brasil. This is one of the Zoo's that haves a spider in it! Really love this cuz the Zoos in Holland don't have spiders in it. The prices are low. We've paid 4 euro because we're students but the normal price is 8 euro. There Zoo is not too big but also not too small. The animals have a lot of moving space. Here's also a Dewe photo booth nearby the giraffes were you can make a picture and send it to your email! Must do!! It's free!

We decided to visit this zoo as we heard the animal section at the safari park we were thinking of visiting was closed, this was our backup. The zoo is easy to find and there is plenty of car parking available, we visited once the German children had gone back to school so it wasn't very busy. It was €8 for an adult to get in which we thought was very good value when you consider the safari park we were thinking of is about €29 for an adult. I have to confess I'm not really a fan of zoos as I always think the animal enclosures are too small and the animals look sad, it was as I feared here. On first arrival and as I proceeded around the zoo I noticed that all the signs including those giving information about the animals were only in German, if you don't read or speak German then you are just looking and guessing. There was also no guide or leaflet in any other language other than German which was disappointing for a tourist attraction. Luckily our friend is German and was able to provide any translation necessary but if you don't have that luxury you will struggle here from my experience. There are baby buggies and luggage carrier trolleys available for a fee of €2 just past the ticket barriers, there is wifi available in the cafe. Despite checking on the website that I could pay by card for the tickets I was unable to so this left me short of money for the day. As mentioned earlier the animals didn't seem to really have enough space and the Orangutangs especially looked unhappy, the giraffes in no way had enough space at all their enclosure was tiny. As we wandered around I was not really 'feeling the vibe' about this place at all, we had a small child with us and it was okay for her with the adventure playground etc which was okay. We had lunch at the restaurant, the food was average but reasonably priced. Again the menu was all in German so our German friend had to read everything out to us, the staff did not seem to speak any English at all either. I know us Brits are bad as a nation with other languages so I take that as a criticism on the chin but I would have thought a tourist attraction would cater not just for English but other languages as well a lot better than this place. All in all I wouldn't come back here again and despite being impressed with the entry fee based on my experience I would encourage you to look for an alternative day out to this zoo.

Take the metro and in 20 minutes from the city train station you're there. The entrance is 8€. Not the most impressive zoo I've been to, but it's worth the money for a walk and see all the animals.

I arrived here by U49 which you need to take to its end stop @ Harcheney. I didn't think the Zoo was well signposted from the U-Bahn stop & almost missed the white sign with arrow pointing in right direction which you need to look out for. You need to walk down a small incline & follow the narrow road on the edge of a thick wooded area untill you reach the Main Entrance. Adult entry was 8 euro. I thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours I spent here, the woodland setting & undulating country which the zoo is set in helps to create some ideal enclosures for the animals they have here, all of which look very healthy & content. Some enclosures have so much natural features, trees, bushes, rocks etc. that some animals are difficult to sopt, but the inhabitants well being is clearly a priority here. Highlights for me are the Rain Forest House which houses the Orangs - The spiral stair which covers 2 levels allows you to look down on them & also to look at them face to face on the lower level. The adult orangs here are absolutely enormous. Feeding time for the sea lions around 11am is also a lot of fun for adults & children alike. As much as anything this is a very nice place for a nice mornings stroll especially if it's a sunny day which I had. Plenty of reasonably priced snack bars throughout & very reasonanable admission price - well worth a visit if you can fit it in. . .

In general I don´t like the Zoo, but when the childrens wanna go to see one I must...So Dortmund Zoo gives me the possibility to have a relaxing time with my family, the price is ok, and a lot of picnic areas are availables for the visitors.

Dortmund zoo is a good place to visit. Animals here look happy and the natural scenery of the zoo is also good. It' a cozy small zoo not far from the Germany's most populated and industrial region. I really liked the giraffes here. They are very beautiful and happy creatures.

This was more than 10 times getting back to this place since we were a lit kid everything has changed but the atmosphere is still the same. Fresh air to walk around and exploring more knowledge about new animals

I have come here ever since I was a kid. Some of the things are still the same, a petting zoo and nice places to play for the kids apart from the animals. It is a very peaceful place to go for a walk, the animal additions of the Orang Utangs are great, also the sloth who freely walked/swung over our heads. Unfortunately no food places were open during the winter weekday hours we visited, but for that we almost had the place to ourselves.

Very cheap. Great variety of animals. We visited during November and there was hardly anyone else there.

Went with my young son who is 10. It's is well designed with plenty of animals to see. There are good cafés etc to use and it's in expensive. The price was €11 for both of us. You have to catch the train to trier park station from the Hauptbahnhoff in the centre of Dortmund and the rail fair is €2.50. The train number is RB52. Great day to spend with kids of all ages.
