zwillbrocker venn

We are taking our third walk along the Holland-Germany border, arranged by www.Easywalk.nl. We love these walks as it is flat, the beer is good, most people speak english here and the food is delicious. We usually go on to other parts of europe when we are finished. I cannot say enough nice things about easywalk. the accomodations are great, meals are terrific and trail is easy to follow. It's a perfect fit for us baby boomers. The venn in Zwillbrock is a large shallow lake which used to be used for peat cutting but is now a nature reserve. It hosts thousands of birds, mostly seaguls in the summer. There are also some rare species of ducks and other birds. Some decade ago flamingos came to the venn. Probable zoo escapees from Münster Zoo, they found a new home here and come back every summer. In the winter it is ideal territory for ice skating. An easy walk around the venn is well sign posted and takes about 45 minutes. It includes bird watching stations. The small baroque church in the village is worth seeing as well. It is right next to the parking facilities.The walk includes some 18th century border markers between the bishoprick of Münster and the Netherlands, as part of the walk is exactly along the border between Germany and the Netherlands.

An sich ein sehr schöner Wanderweg mit außergewöhnlicher Vegetation und einem wirklich schönen See. Allerdings war der Ausblick auf diesen nur sehr selten gegeben, was sehr schade ist. Auch die Flamingos waren leider nicht so gut zu erkennen.

Vor allem die Flamnigos in freien Wildbahn zu sehen ist ein tolles Erlebnis. Empfehlenswert ist, das Venn in den Morgenstunden vor dem großen Besucher Andrang zu besuchen. Anschließend bietet sich ein Mittagessen zu Beispiel im "Am Kring" in Ammeloe an. Nur wenige Kilometer entfernt und bei weitem nicht so voll wie die Restaurants in Zwillbrock. Das Essen im "Am Kring" ist vorzüglich.

Mooi moerassig Vengebied met als bijzonderheid een natuurlijke flamingokolonie in het kerkje op de foto worden regelmatig concerten gegeven

Das Zwillbrocker Venn in Vreden ist ein einmaliges Naturschutzgebiet. Es ist ein ehemaliges Hochmoor und bietet verschiedenen Vögeln aber auch anderen Tieren einen idealen Lebensraum. Einige bedrohte Vogelarten sind hier beheimatet und soviel ich weiß, ist es der nördlichste Brutplatz für rosa Flamingos in freier Wildbahn. Am Gewässer sind zwei Beobachtungshäuschen eingerichtet worden von denen man aus die Flamingos sehr gut beobachten kann.
