We walked up to this gate after spending some time at the Christmas Market. It is well worth while making the effort to see it because it is a wonderfully preserved piece of the old town wall. The teeth on the bottom of the portcullis are especially fearsome. Close to what seems to be the University so lots of students about which makes the whole area very vibrant.

Amazingly well preserved, this old city gate is easily accessible for anyone. We strolled through on our way to the Aachen Christmas market and were very pleased to have had the pleasure of seeing it.

This medieval gate is in great condition. It gives you a sense of the old walled city of Aachen and contains an intact portcullis. The area nearby contains lots of interesting and cheap student bars and restaurants.

This is one of the remaining gates of Aachen and it was built in the 14th century. The port is still in a very nice and complete condition and consists of several walls and buildings. The gate is at the end of the Pontstraße, which runs from the market until the Ponttor, and which contains almost only restaurants with terraces. So the walk itself to the Ponttor is also very nice.

My 11 yo son and I were in Aachen for a school exchange program. We had several appointments in the city, and for 1, we parked near this gate. We walked through on our way in, and it gave such a sense of history for this area. We continued on, but as another reviewer pointed out, there are lots of shops and restaurants in the area. We continued on to the town hall and cathedral. Makes you wonder how they built such an impressive structure without modern equipment.

Had been advised by a former Aachen uni student to look round this area . Ok if you like fast food and are about 20 years old .

Een mooie poort nabij het studentendistrict in Aachen. Beetje creepy 's avonds door aangelegen voetgangerstunnel. Hier zitten veel daklozen zo te zien aan de sporen.

Pasé por ese lugar muchas veces cuando estudiaba en Alemania, Aachen específicamente.Debo decir que después de muchos volví a visitar el lugar y es realmente impactante volver a un lugar repleto de historias y recuerdos personales.Vale la pena visitar este lugar.

Siempre que viajamos a Aachen, pasamos a través de esta preciosa puerta medieval, Ponttor, ya que dejamos siempre el coche aparcado por la zona, para no ir con él hasta el centro histórico de la ciudad.Ponttor, es una de las puertas de la ciudad de Aachen, una de las dos que quedan en la ciudad, y que eran parte de la antigüa muralla que protegía a Aachen. La otra puerta es Marschiertor.Es una puerta medieval, muy bonita y muy bien conservada, que no pasa inadvertida para nadie. Desde aqui y en unos minutos se llega caminando al casco viejo de la ciudad.

Como todas as cidades medievais eram cercadas por muralhas e de vez em quando havia portões, obviamente muito altos, já que as muralhas eram muito altas, justamente para defender as cidades. As duas que conheço são simples. Essa e a Marschiertor. Tor= porta, portão.

Construída no século XIV e nos séculos XVII foi um dos portais de entrada da cidade de Aachen. Acredito que muitos moradores passam por ali diariamente, sem nem se darem conta da beleza da estrutura. Para turistas, é algo diferente, único e ponto obrigatório numa visita a charmosa cidade de Aachen.
