It was interesting to see that this grand building stands in a very vulnerable place. The watermarks on the wall show how far up the water comes every time the river is flooded. The position of Passau, at the confluence of 3 rivers, means that over the years they get flooded up to the first floor. Nowadays nobody lives on the ground floor of any building due to the danger.

This building was closed in the day we were in Passau. The outside of the building is beautiful. Be sure to notice the flood markings on he front of the building. Our guide said it was very nice inside too.

The murals added in about 1922 tells stories about the town and the important characters -- and also pointedly leaves out certain folks!

We didn't have the opportunity to go inside this building. The entrance was blocked by workmen. The town of Passau was greatly flooded last summer (2013) and some places are still being repaired. The exterior of the building is decorated with large and amazing paintings. Don't miss the high water marks dating back to the 1500s over the entrance.

Whilst on an Emerald Danube River Cruise we stopped in Passau and saw this beautiful building. The most interesting thing externally are the water marks which are located at the corner of the building. Due to the fact that Passau is known as the "City of Three Rivers"it suffers regularly from flooding. Last year in 2013 it suffered its worst flooding in 500 years. Inside there are many paintings.

This is a very interesting building,in the old part of Passau. This is where the mayor and city council have their offices. It is also he place you get married .Inside it has a small room, where the marriage takes place, and then the big room, where concerts and other people who visit the mayor come too.The paintings are beautiful. Also on the outside of the building is the markings of the different flood level, the town has had over hundreds of years.the entrance is on the side of the building.

If you are visiting Passau then pop in to the Rathaus for a quick visit. Its got some interesting paintings and stuff so worth a little look. Don't make it your first choice though.

It sounded good, but I couldn't find the entrance. Well, I did find an entrance but it didn't seem to be the right one. What I did see was totally unimpressive.

The water marks are of interest, located at the corner of the building, we did not realize that Passau is known as the "City of Three Rivers". Due to the convergence of these rivers it suffers regularly from floods, in 2013 Passau had the worst flooding in 500 years. Other than that we did not find the town hall itself of much interest or that much to see might be more accurate, anyway we were not impressed with this as we were with other buildings in Passau.

The main hall is filled with art work depicting the reign of Ferdinand I. The old town shopping area is also interesting and there are plenty of nice cafes for a drink and a light meal.

The Großer Rathaussaal is well worth the €2 admission because the artwork in that hall, dating back to 1680, is gorgeous!

i was waiting to visit the building and was excited since it has a very old wine cellar but unfortunately it was closed for public when we visited the place but still looked amazing from the very little i saw!

The Old Town Hall was interesting but nothing out of the ordinary. I found greater interest in the flood water marks that are marked on the clock tower on the right of the entrance.

After a very steep climb you get to the top where the view is tremendous. You can take the roadway back.

The Passau, Germany "old city hall" is a delight to view inside, with its colorful wooden beamed ceiling and stained glass windows. However, it's more well known as the site where one can view the multiple-century flood lines marked on the Danube River side of the building. An historical adventure back in time.
