The church was locked tight, but the graves outside are interesting if a little weather worn. If was hard to read any of the words on them, and the carvings are starting to deteriate
This is a lovely church in a simple Georgian style with wonderful wooden pews. A charming llady was on duty to allow visits to the tower which is worth climbing to get a great view of the city. There is an interesting churchyard to the side of the church with wonderful monuments.
We stumbled upon this church when we were wandering around Regensburg. We had previously been to the cathedral. The main feature about the church is the extensive use of wood inside. Panels, beams, pews, flooring etc and a mezzanine area. Very impressive and a change from the gilt and ornate paintings we had seen in other churches.Through the side of the church were a number of headstones with many of them decorated with skulls (not real). Very interesting. Then we paid to ascend to the top of the church up, at times, narrow stairs and past a giant bell. The view from the top was brilliant looking out over the rooftops of the town. 360 degrees available and well worth the climb. We rated the visit to this church above the cathedral. Go and have a look.
It is true that much of Bavaria has deep Catholic roots, but it is somewhat disconcerting that there are so few Protestant Churches in the heart of many of the historic districts. Dreikonieger Lutheran Church is an exception to this. This is one of the early churches spawned by the Luther revolution, construction began around 1630. This is a very familiar Lutheran design, lots of wooden decor, all wooden altar. Much simpler and less ornate than the common Catholic designs of the day.
Right in the middle of town, this recently renovated baroque church possesses a bell tower that can be climbed. The view from up there is spectacular over the entire medieval city and the Danube valley. Highly recommended!
Someone wrote about a visitor falling in the church. I am that visitor. Yes, I did not see the step down. It was a pretty big crash. Upon arriving home, and new x-rays, I find I have a broken knee cap and surgery is required. Beautiful church, but watch your step.
This lovely church in the centre of Regensburg provides an opportunity for quiet reflection. It is light and airy with sufficient information to set the Reformation in Regensburg in context. But, whilst we were there, one visitor fell down the step in the nave of the church - it was not identified by any white line and should be so marked for visitor safety.
I liked this plain, little church in the town centre better than the Dom. The only down side were the steps I had to climb to get inside. It was quiet, Lutheran and plain. Some nice paintings inside. A cool place to relax and reflect on life - away from the mid-day summer sun and the tourists.
This is a great place to view the city of Regensburg from. It is only 2€ to go up the tower and you can walk around, take pictures and stay as long as you would like. It's very close the the old city, but far enough away to have a great view of the Altstadt. Highly recommended!
