Overlooking the town from the center of town this church dominates kthe historic town, it can be seen for miles around. A total of 6 bells inviting you to services! 3 different altars, wonderful stained glass windows, huge organ, mosaic side altar with Mary and Archangel designed by famous contemporary artist Prof. Huber of Seeshaupt/Starnberg lake in the 1950's. sometimes open to climb the main tower for a view you won't believe. Damaged during the 30 year war in 15 th century and during artillery barrages in the final days of the war in 1945. Luckily the stained glass windows had been removed and stored safely underground.
Normally the church is opened, but due to sickness of the main responsable mass was held elsewhere. It would have been open the next day but by then we travelled on. In its close vicinity the Hermann Hesse museum. The Church was rebuilt 1884-88 (architect Felix von Berner) in the neo-Gothic style, the ship was demolished as it was ruinous. The medieval parts of the previous buildings (chorus and Tower range) were preserved. The Gothic choir was is dedicated to an in 1428 consecrated building. The 1505 South Choir (Sacristy) was designed by the architect Peter von Breisach. Neo-Gothic interior: the Ulms Cathedral was model to the churchbenches and choir stalls. Stained-glass Windows in the choir of Calwer families and manufactured 1887-1915 by Munich artists. 1655 Wooden crucifix. The window under the gallery at the ship refreshed 1930-32 and 1958 design Rudolf Yelin. Paintings, floors, the altar and the baptismfont in were removed in 1956/57 during the redesign. Further renovation in 1996/97 (oa floor heating system installed) and Church benches were changed.
