Very nice place to stop in. The clocks here look more original than some of the other stores on this block.
Highly recommend. Great staff. Very helpful. Beautiful clocks. You won't be sorry. Answered all my questions. Did I say beautiful?
Like many, my wife e-mail Oli and made an appointment to visit. When we walked in, within seconds he was a our side and asked if we were the folks from New York. Great salesman, knows his business and he does have great clocks. not an easy town to get to for a day trip, if the weather is good, come via the south, great views of the Black Forest. Going north, gets boring fast and nothing to see of interest, also the traffic is greater with a number of large trucks. The town itself, is only good if you want to purchase something from the Black Forest. Very limited free parking and every thing is top dollar. My wife did purchase a clock a few days ago, so its still being shipped. Also, there is a Post Office about 200 feet away to mail your postcards from. Make an appointment, he seems to live a great life outside the shop.
We stopped in Triberg specifically to buy a cuckoo clock for a friend and after researching online, felt that the classic, hand carved, traditional clock we were looking for would be at Oli's. We passed many other cuckoo clock stores on the way and most reminded us (unfortunately) of the garish tourist strip that is Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls. When we entered Oli's, we were greeted by his mother and on hearing that we had come specifically to his shop, she sent us straight up to the second floor of the shop where Oli was. After taking us around and showing different styles and models of clocks, we showed him the online picture of the clock we were looking for specifically and recognizing it, said it was not in stock at the moment, but he could have it done for us and shipped out in several weeks. At that moment, my wife(who had no intention of buying one for ourselves), staring at the corner of the room exclaimed, 'there is our clock!' Oli told us that it was a very traditional, classic, old style clock. So without further ado, we added 'our clock' to the order and he arranged shipping back to Canada for us. (You can see it hanging directly behind us, mounted on the dark plaque we also purchased with it). It is now classified as a 'family heirloom'!
We visited this place after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. We wanted a genuine cuckoo clock and were very happy that we vsited this place. The staff gave us a tour how to spot fakes. the clocks are beautiful and each one is diffrent. They arent cheap by the way. Expect atleast 230 euros for the basic one. The clocks are tax free for non euro customers and with shipping its hassel free. I am still waiting for the clock and just recieved the tracking id from them.
I had emailed Oli prior to our arrival letting him know when we would be there. When we arrived, he gave us a tour and took a good bit of time explaining the difference between hand carved clocks and mass produced clocks. He also said he could combine different parts of clocks if we didn't see exactly what we wanted. Well, we ended up taking several components from different clocks and combining them into one clock. The prices were good and we can't wait to hear the music in our home. This would be the only place I would recommend for a clock.
Bought our clock here. Staff was incredibly informative and friendly. We had them ship it back to our home (rather than pack it home ourselves) and it arrived within about 2 weeks: before we even got back! This is, by far, the best place to purchase any cuckoo clock. They have a clock for every budget - even some above 10 000 Euro!If you're lucky, you can watch Oli wood-working on the first floor.Go here!
Not only can you look at the wonderful clocks (and buy one), but you get a lesson on how they work, what makes a good clock vs a bad or cheaply made clock, etc. We appreciated the knowledge share and the prices were good.
This store came highly recommended and I was really looking forward to buying a cuckoo clock here. We were only in Triberg for one night. We went to the shop about 5 PM hoping to make my purchase. The signs said that the shop was open until 6 PM but everything was dark and it was already closed and locked up. My business went elsewhere.
We could not justify leaving a visit to the Black Forest sans cuckoo clock, and found this to be the best merchant - traditionally handcarved in the region. We custom ordered a clock to be shipped back to Canada - I admit panicking when it was a tad late arriving, but it did arrive in top condition - not to worry, they have a great reputation - it has wonderful construction and detail, and is an awesome conversation piece and tangible memory of our trip.
The cucko clocks on display were impressive, which is the local traditional craft, so nothing out of the ordinary there if i say these are the best i've ever seen.however, other than the cuckoo clocks, other items were average, and i've seen better from other cities nearby for much lesser prices.i'd give it 3.5.
We purchased our cuckoo clock from Oli Zinapold, Master Carver, in 2004. We wanted to check in and see him during our most recent visit last month. Oli is part of the Master Carver's Club which was founded in 2005 to preserve and protect the old tradition of handcrafting cuckoo clocks. There is no mass production here and only a few models of each style of clock are available. When we first shopped for our clock in 2004, we were informed about wood facing, vs plastic - the clock hands, and all the carvings. There are clocks for every taste, and every price range. Of course, when shopping for a clock in Triberg, there are several shops to choose from; however, if you want to save yourself some time, only shop here. It may take a few hours to choose the perfect clock, from themed clocks like Hansel & Gretel to Hunter style clocks, to traditional Bavarian Biergarten clocks, to birds, etc. It is truly enjoyable to talk with Oli about his works, and other items displayed in his shop. This trip we purchased carved Edelweiss wall art and hand carved "climbers." Pictures are displayed on my review. (Please note his inventory is always changing and many of the clocks you see in my photos were sold when we were in Triberg.) We also ordered a custom weight wall cone that will be carved with our initials and the year we purchased our clock. Remember you are purchasing an heirloom which will be handed down for generations to come. Pick the clock that speaks to you the most - we chose an 8 day which only requires winding once per week. You have the ability to turn off the cuckoo and customize any part of the clock you want from the song, to the pendulum hanger, to the crown of the clock - Oli will accommodate you and ship items to you as well. We couldn't be more pleased with ours, and the service and honesty we get from Oli. The store is always packed and highly recommended. We will visit every time to Oli when we go to the Black Forest.
We have been living in Germany since 2012. We came to the black forest to purchase a clock in the winter that year. I had done a ton of research and knew (at least I thought I did) exactly what clock I wanted. I had never hear of MCC or Oli before arriving to Triberg. We saw his place first and just walked in. The lady at the front was very helpful and introduced us to Oli. He was super. Gave us a tour and explained the difference between the MCC clocks and the "others". Said to look around Triberg and see what he was talking about. So we left without a clock and looked at the other shops. NO ONE compared to his clocks. The workmanship was outstanding on the MCC clocks. And we came back. Found a clock that we like but wanted a different "main theme". We found the right theme in his shop and Oli said come back in about a hour and he would have our clock ready. We did and walk out with a handmade original Cuckoo clock and he was nice enough to do pictures with us too. It is now 2014 and we still LOVE our clock. Simply the best no other clock company compares. I'm sure we will enjoy our clock for years and years to come. And when we leave Europe, we will think of all great times we had here everytime we look at our Cuckoo clock. Thank you Oli and MCC.
We visited Oli's after reading the reviews here and we were glad that we visited. The shop has a very good collection of cuckoo clocks. We bought a cuckoo clock and are very happy with it.The price is fair.My son had too many questions about clock making and he was very patient to answer them as well as gifted him a souvenir. It was nice of him..!
I contacted Oli before arriving to Germany, to tell him that we will be traveling to Triberg only to go to his store and buy a real Cuckoo Clock.. We got there and Oli was waiting for me and gave us a tour of the store and also showed us the difference between a fake Cuckoo Clock and an original one.. We got a beautiful one and he shipped directly to our house in USA it two a few weeks but the trip, the experience an the wait was completely worthy.. Thanks Oli for your help, keep the good work !!!!
