This bridge was one of the main attractions for my wife and I when we came to Spoleto in 2012. We had spent a couple of hours at the Rocca before moving on to the bridge. You need to do quite a bit of walking to get around Spoleto and the hike up to the Rocca and Ponte delle Torri in high summer asks some questions about your current state of fitness. The Ponte delle Torri is very special. I have seen works like it in other cities such as Ronda but this tops the lot. Firstly, it's old. The exact date of its construction is uncertain although the 13th century is the most widely held consensus. The quality of the construction is superb; it appears to part of the living landscape. The size of the Ponte too is worth a mention because it is genuinely massive and no picture can do it full justice. The last great thing are the magnificent views of the beautiful southern Umbrian valley. Turner recognised this quality and his evocative painting of the Ponte delle Torri from the valley floor resides in Tate London. That about sums it up. If you have have the opportunity to see it, do not miss it.

This is one of the places where you understand how Italian Renaissance artists, even Leonardo, took their inspiration for the rocky backgrounds of some of their Madonnas. The scenery is romantic, just under Spoleto's castle (the Rocca, high up and dramatic), and it's a marvelous walk.Go walking in the afternoon, cross the Ponte delle torri, have a walk (long, short, you decide) on the other side, then come back to town on the bridge and stop in one of the bars close by, enjoy a cooling glass of white wine, or whatever, sit back, relax. ... then you are ready for a quick shower and dinner.

try to visit it at night. there is a circular path that goes around the hill of the Rocca, the medieval castle. The bridge with its orange lights against the dark hills is really a marvel...

The town has its own special atmosphere very quiet well kept and with the most amazing attraction the bridge. You can cross on the other side of the bridge and enjoy beautiful views.

Just an amazing aqueduct with great views around the area. Don't miss visiting the town as it makes a pleasant 2-3 hour wander. Have a coffee at the Bar La Portella which gives you great views down the valley. If you wander through the town you find the Roman amphitheatre remains.

It is not only the Aqueduct/Towers Bridge it is the escalator ride up there and the walk around the Castle that is even additionally amazing and enjoyable. I was aw struck by the views all along the walk way around the Castle, breathtaking and they would just keep coming with every 100 feet I walked. Thank you Spoleto for having a Cafe Bar at the top for refreshments and an opportunity to sit and enjoy the majestic views, the coffee was good too. When I go back to Spoleto I will take the walk again and wait till sundown to see the fantastic sunset from there, and I will be going back! Visited November 3rd, 2014.

An amazing construct, and a magnificent view are the reason to visit this ancient bridge. It is also the start point to a bunch of walks into the mountains around Spoleto

There are 2 sections, the lower and wider is for pedestrian. The upper appears so narrow that I think it must have been an aqueduct of sorts. Grass and wild plants are grown on it now.I did not have time to walk on it, as there isn't a destination to go .But it looks very attractive indeed. There is a wide passagiata a way up so that one has a pretty view. Many Spoletans take their walk every evening.

We loved exploring this medieval bridge and aqueduct and the views of valley are stunning! We enjoyed getting off the beaten path and spending time on the hiking trails just off the bridge. It was a beautiful ending to a wonderful time in Spoleto.

I've seen a lot of picture of this bridge crossing the valley from Spoleto to Montelucco. There's a walkway across the back which is not visible from most photos. It's a loooong way down from the center. Go to the middle and take some photos!!!

Absolutely amazing to be standing and walking on a structure so old. It is amazing to think it dates back over 2000 years.

Worth the walk up all the steep little alleyways, the view over Umbria is amazing. Once up there, walk across the bridge to get views over Spoleto.

Spoleto in Umbria is awesome- not many tourists, breathtaking mountain views and friendly people. One of the main attractions is the Ponte delle torri, an ancient aqueduct bridge that spans a huge gorge at the top of the mountain that overlooks the town. Opposite the bridge is a huge fort on the other side of the gorge. We walked over the bridge on a tiny footpath to the other side were you can pick up and hike the St Francis trail. Getting up to the Ponte is easy the town built a series of 8 outdoor escalators that gets you close to the top- an easy 20 minute scenic walk gets you to the bridge.
