The cathedral is a bit small but very stylish. There is a space with relics of pope Giovanni XXIII. Also thumbs are interesting. Was real pleasure to spend there a few moments
Forget the art galleries and museums.... you can see breathtaking artwork in the churches of Italy. This church in particular was gorgeous. The ceilings were incredible and the entire inside was full of the most magnificent paintings.....
A wonderful Cathedral full of paintings, carvings, statues all amazing!Simply perfect!the light ,in late afternoon was simply perfect:it gave to all monuments a splendid AURA :magic.
A must do visit. Look up for a wow factor !- the facades are beautiful too! We found visitors respectful and managed to find some time to sit and reflect and soak up the surroundings .
Amazing, you need to go in, and if you can, get a guided your as I would have overlooked a lot of stuff about this place.
Paintings, carvings, statues abound, not to mention tapestries and the beautifully painted ceilings. This is bay far, the best Cathedral in Citta Alta. When I was there the monks/priests were singing behind the main cathedral. Nevertheless, their voices rang throughout. It was lovely. I sat for an hour and just took it all in. One of the best experiences I had while in Bergamo.
Golden statue of Saint Alexander on the dome is pretty recognisable symbol of the cathedral when looking at the city from one of the towers or from San Vigilio hill. But cathedral facade is not eye-catching, the interior does not impress much either. Personally, I prefered Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore to cattedrale. Not that I discourage you from visiting, but this church does not have the ambience similar to the neighbouring basilica.
Worth a visit for the amazing wall paintings, decorated ceilings and beautiful, recently renovated tapestries. Nearby in the small piazza an amazing way of telling the time!
Well mantained cathedral with several paintings. The Battistero has several Bas-relief that make this place another gem of the old city.
Bergamo cathedral was lovely with many treasures to see. It closes for several hours around lunchtime so time your visit well if you don't want to be rushed.
If you are a cathedral lover, it is a must see. You will want to spent some time. Bergamo has many surprises...
One more fantastic church / cathedral in the old city. The amount of money spent on these holy places is amazing
I especially liked the facade of this mausoleum. If you go around it on the right side you'll see interesting frescoes too.
This is the main church of Bergamo and is next to the Palazzo della Ragione and the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. It took 4 centuries to complete and is dedicated to a martyr of Bergamo called Alessandro. There are wonderful decorations and frescos especially on the cupola. There is also a chapel dedicated to pope Giovanni XXIII. Don't miss this church.
This church is not to be missed! The new saint was a secretary for the bishop here and the chapel dedicated to Pope John XXIII is interesting.
