This eerie atmospheric cave with the weird green water and the weirder box-like boats provides enough entertainment to justify the time and money. Stop and look if you're passing.
Our guide suggested we stop at the Grotto dello Smeraldo (Emerald Grotto) since the weather had not cooperated in allowing us to see the Capri Grotto and there were very few folks waiting at the time of our arrival. I was very happy he suggested this because I had so much fun here! I didn't know what to expect but a handsome and upbeat Italian man helped us into a row boat and took us around inside the beautiful green grotto explaining points of interest and saying "looky looky" at a few landmarks and suggesting one in particular resembled Ronald Reagan. The small admission price to this attraction was well worth the amount of laughing I did! If you have a good sense of humor then you will enjoy this attraction.
A wonder of the nature, not to be missed if you are visiting the Amalfi Coast, the price is reasonable, but sometimes it is so much chaos.
This place is very interesting, I've visited during a stop by the car between an Amalfi/Positano ride but it happened just while many tourist buses arrived, so many people all at once, poor organization and long waits.
Considered by many to be the eighth natural wonder of the world. This stunning grotto, in my opinion, rivals the more well-known Grotto Azzurro of Capri for sheer beauty and surprise factor. Its a must- see while visiting Conca. The inside of the grotto is crowded with pointy hanging and growing things almost ten metres tall and contain the most bright emerald-green water, which is lit by the light that passes under the rocky wall of the cave. But the most fabulous thing about this grotto is the guides who row you around in the boats: there are Germen boats, French boats, English boats, and so on. naturally, the guides speak all languages. the problem is that everything they say sounds Neopolitan. You can listen to a charming account of the caves in Neapo-English, Neapo-German or Neapo- French. The spiel is not important; the visual beauty of this grotto says it all, but the guides are entertaining.
This was a nice little diversion worth the time and money to stop and see as you go by. I'm not sure if I'd want to wait in a long line, but the time or year we went, there was no waiting. Memorable.
During a tour of the Amalfi coast, our driver suggested us to visit this cave, we did it and was amazing, something of very unusual for us!
We stopped at the Emerald Grotto per the recommendation of our tour guide from Mundo Guide Private Day Tours. For a small fee, we took a small boat through the grotto and the boat driver was really funny! He kept saying "Looky Looky" as he moved the water with his paddle to show us the green color. The other boat driver was singing old Italian songs. It was such a funny spectacle but also very beautiful to see. The water appears emerald green and the cave itself is impressive. We are so happy we stopped at this gem.
I don't understand the big deal about this place. Compared to The Blue Grotto on Capri, this is a Coney Island sideshow and a real tourist trap. Its overhyped and an anticlimax, not worth the visit. But if you must go and your oarsman is Marco who is a touchy feely guy with your girl friend or wife when your back is turned, then be fore warned.
Our driver recommended we stop and visit the Grotta dell Smeraldo. It was 5,00 euros per person and you give a small tip to the boat driver at the end. You are only down for about 10 minutes but the water is a gorgeous green. Our boat driver did not serenade us but rather explained about the grotto. We were never asked for a tip either.
On a recent trip to the Amalfi Coast our boat stopped at the Grotta dello Smeraldo on our way to Positano. The boat ride along the coast was beautiful, but stopping at the Grotto was a waste of time and money. The cave is very small, and the ride around the cave is short with the boatman singing loudly the whole time and then demanding a tip. Having visited the Blue Gotto on Capri which was a better experience although not something I would do again, the Grotta dello Smeraldo is disappointing.
We arrived by boat from Positano - boat trip to get to the Grotto was best part of the experience - would highly recommend this view of the coastline. Grotto itself very small & disappointing. We were told this cave is similar to the Blue (Azul) Grotto on Capri - glad we were advised.Row boat trip inside the grotto took 5 minutes and guide was VERY sarcastic with anyone who did not give him a tip.
A very small cave with a spot of blue water. You got a 10 min boat ride around the cave, the boatman is singing serenades very loudly, beat oar on the water, then ask for a tip for that(!!!!!) There are much more beautiful caves and grottos in the world that really worth to see, do not waste time and money (6 euros parking, 5 euros entrance). There is really nothing to see, two stalactites and dolls in the water that they show you like "attraction". The biggest dissapointment we saw on the Amalfi Coast!
It's a little boat tour in the cave. There is not much to see in the cave, it's cheap to go in at 5EUR, and made a quite nice little stop on the road, however i wouldn't call it a must-see.
We happened on this little tour while driving the road from Amalfi to Positano. It was a quick elevator ride to the base, and from there about a 5 minute wait before getting escorted inside. We were boarded onto a small boat, and taken into the pool. The color of the water is surreal, and well worth the small fee to enter (5 eu pp). We were even serenaded by the boat driver which sounded great in the high enclosed cavern.
