A nice place to visit if you visit bracciano. Wonderful view over the lake and historic place to see. And of course you can enjoy some italian food around the place.
You don't have to post this, but do you realize that the Odescalchi Fortress is the exact same place as the Castello di Bracciano? You should merge the two. It makes no senese to have them as separate attractions. The "Terrible" is for the posts, not for the facility which is excellent.
We visited the Castle of Bracciano on the last open day in October and we were extremely lucky that we were allowed to wander around freely in the building without a guide. There were no more than 3-4 visitors apart from us so and the rooms were almost always empty. We were able to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings and study the English brochures in the rooms without pressure. The painted friezes and the ceilings are important works of art and the view towards the lake is always beautiful. Bracciano is the archetypal medieval castle like an illustration in a children book. We did not realized that taking photos was prohibited and were able to make a majestic collection of pictures.
Beautiful imposing Castle. A bit pricey at 7.50 and there are no English speaking tours. The views from the castle are stunning but was disappointed that the gardens were out of bounds.
Bristling armouries, towering battlements, dodgy legends, and amazing views over the lake. The tour takes nearly an hour (there are English ones) and is very well done.
There is a huided tour starting every hour and it is included in the ticket price. The castle is awesome and the views spectacular. You feel like in medieval times. Not to miss it if you go toBracciano.
The visit was is good value for money. The area of the castle open to visitors is scantly decorated with a few pieces of furniture and a couple of paintings.A photocopied piece of paper, which serves as guide, contains many errors and is only partly legible. The castle is (of course) not at all easy to access for elderly or disabled persons. Many hard to negotiate areas, very uneven surfaces, high steps, stairs and not a single elevator. Will not come back.
My husband and I had a wonderful tour of the castle yesterday. We had an easy walk from the train station and arrived just as the castle opened at 10:00. We could have walked around the castle by ourselves, but we decided to wait for a 10:30 tour in English. We were so glad that we waited. The tour guide was friendly and informative. The tour was just under an hour, and we were the only ones on the tour. So glad we visited the castle!
Castle was interesting enough but access was limited to one of the wings only and no access to the gardens outside. Rooms on show were barely furnished and the armoury was not that great; certainly in comparison to many in Scotland.
Highly recommended if you're in Bracianno. We went during a quiet period and chose not to go with a tour guide. Loved exploring the castle and the views of Bracianno lake were great. We went in a small group of 8 and we were the only people in the castle so we definitely got our moneys worth on that day! It probably took around an hour and a half to finish walking around the castle which we found just right as we had 2 small children with us.
The Castle is well maintained and the tour is nice although only offered in Italian. You are able to get a spectacular view of the lake during the tour. The price is 7 euro a person.
The castle is a very interesting and the tour was good however too hurried. Rather than any time to look at the rooms after the guide gave some background, you were shepherded along at quite a fast pace. But generally worth doing.
Maybe It is because i have lived inside this castle for 25 years (my parents were the guardians), but i have never seen such a wonderful castle like the Odescalchi's one.It is one of the best conserved castles in Europe and tells amazing stories of medieval princesses and knigts. Along with the Italian Air Force Museum of Vigna di Valle is a must that you can't miss! (Ask to Tom Cruise and other VIPs who have chosen this fortress for their unforgettable weddings...).
If you book you can drink in the hystorical place. Then you can see, in these days, how many films taken around the fortress. So, you can plan yr wedding party.
Having visited Bracciano many times I had never been inside the castle, so it was really time to go. The sign outside the castle detail the costs and that they have tours in several languages. Make sure that you request a tour in your language otherwise they will give you one in Italian. Our tour was in Italian but wasn't a problem as we both speak the language fairly well. Our tour guide was most informative and give us lots of information about the rooms and the history of the castle. We were lucky as we had the tour guide to ourselves (me and my girlfriend). The tour before us had about 20 people on it. It is definitely a once in a life time experience. The view from the castle was amazing. Definitely go on a nice day.
