I liked walking along the river and admiring the beautiful architecture and the mountains. There were lovely shops which were great for window shopping.
What a wonderful place, Merano Spa town is breathtaking and a short visit is not sufficient but gives you a desire to return and stay to take in the alphine scenery and river that South Tyrol is famous for.Cake and coffee in a local cafe followed by a wonderful selection of ice creams make this pure heaven.
We were surprised by Merano. The city center is really nice to walk, with shops and restaurants on pedestrian only streets. The river walk is perfect for a long stroll and definitely visit the thermas. Without fail do the Tappeiner Promenade. Hike to Swiss Town and take the bus back down.
This is a beautiful old town with tradition still strong . It is pleasant to stroll around and see the old buildings some beautifully restored some still in shabby state , but looking good and fitting in none the less. Its a good working historic town , so everything is here . Lots of great shops , some very good cafes and restaurants . I think you could quite easily spend a half day here shopping and looking around .
Originally just a lunch stop for my wife and I whilst travelling through Northern Italy but soon became an extended visit! My wife discovered the shopping strip and was entranced by the unique range of fashion items available ....... my Bad!!Pros: Architectural menagerie, lovely scenery down by the Passer River, great range of pasticcerias, even walking (albeit on cobbles) and for us wonderful weather! Cons: obviously the shopping took its toll on the travel budget!!More than just a lunch stop. For us Merano is probably one of those rare little finds that will be added to a future itinerary!!
Pretty town, nice leather goods shops. Cafes with g orgeous cakes and pastries. Lots of buzz , market and lively atmosphere
Nice shops with portico walkway. Can walk along river also. good cafes and restaurants. We spent a pleasant afternoon there.
Spectacular location. Classy tourist setting and beautiful gardens everywhere. The main shopping street is lined with arched arcades with high end boutiques. Fun to window shop if you don't want to buy. The buildings are all restored elegantly. There is such pride of ownership in this area of Italy.Highly recommended.
The city centre is really beautiful and very clean. Definitely worth it have a walk aorund and check out the different monuments. In addition, the area has also a lot of nice shops, which is worth to check out.
Great historic covered street but also huge range of shops and eateries.Cool to wander through on a hot day.
Well preserved old city, with fashionable shops under arcades and mouth watering restaurants. Everything is on a walking distance and enjoyable even under bad weather.
Whether a wet or dry day, Meran is a place worth visiting. Great selection of sights, shops and cafés and a covered arched historic gallery over most of the shopping area for all weathers. Highly recommended.
Merano is quite beautiful, with the river running through the center of town. The central area is about what you would expect in a city its size, with a reasonably attractive cathedral, plenty of restaurants, and a good deal of activity. You won't be wowed by it, but you will find that it is a very pleasant and relaxing place to be.
Just get out and walk around along the river, eat some gelato, sit on a bench, people watch, and relax with the beautiful scenery all around.
I just spent one afternoon in Meran-Merano. The city was very busy with tourists (mainly German-sepaking). It is very typical and I loved the quaint atmosphere of this medieval small town.
