We spent an entire afternoon going through out the site. Note this requires a lot of walking and some hill climbing. The quality of the ruins is outstanding and should not be missed.

It was the best don' t miss it. Take your time and enjoy the walking and all it has to offer. It may be a lot of walking but you can take your time and rest if you need to.

Though a bit out of the way (southwest coast of Sicily), it can be made part of a full day excursion also including the Roman Mosaics at Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina. The Valley of the Temples is in Agrigento. The four main temple sites are truly inspiring and hold some of the best preserved temples outside of Rome and Greece. Expect about 2hrs for the temple visit and 1 1/2 for the Mosaics. Getting there is about 2 1/2 hrs from Taormina and then 1 1/2 hrs to Agrigento. We did it, stayed overnight in Agrigento, then went to Palermo. You can do that or go in reverse but the total trip including pit stops and lunch was from 8:30 am to 5 pm.

The weather was beautiful when I visited, about 2 hours before sunset. The temples are very impressive and the remote location is spectacular. The light was perfect at this time of day. Go on a sunny day, maybe take a picnic, and you will love it.

This was quite amazing to see. It is a lot of walking so be prepared. No maps or brochures are handed out but there are some signs in English as well as Italian near the major sights. You can get pretty close to the monuments for pictures and even get on a few. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

It was quite an experience to walk around the buildings that were built centuries ago. Full of historic significance and well worth the exercise of going uphill.

This whole area has an almost sacred atmosphere, hard to believe that people have lived here already for so long! However the almost 1000 (!) year old olive trees that stand around prove that this really is the case.

The archaeological park is well laid out with easy walking paths taking you past 2,500 years of history. I recommend the cafeteria below the Temple of Concord. The food was not bad and the setting was wonderful.

We are big fans of Greek temples and these are the equal of those at Paestum. The setting here is more spectacular with the sea in the background. It's a great visit in the off-season. Park at the museum and walk one of the paths down to the temples.

Thoroughly enjoyed the visit, it was quiet in February so we were able to wander slowly and absorb the history. The valley has a perfect little cafe in the middle to sit, reflect, relax. There was very little information readily available for non-Italian speakers and we had to ask for a map of the temples - extra €1 - which was useful. By accident we parked at the bottom car park, Hargreaves, and from there we took a €3 taxi, which was all ready and waiting, to the top end and the main entrance. This worked well as we then walked through the valley slowly, to to bottom, and back to the €3 car park. But do take some information and read up on the site, it makes the visit excellent.
