fontana dell'amenano

In the heart of Catania in the square close to the Cathedral and the Elephant lies the fountain. On our visit today the fountain can be seen but it was mostly boarded for restoration. It appears to have water running under it like a stream which is highly unusal and unlike most bowl shaped standard fountains. Free to all.

Nice statue in the centre of town, good for photos. It is right next to a good cafe which sells local food, but I cannot remember the name of it.

It is worth visiting the fountain for a photo opportunity when in the piazza exploring Catania.The morning is very busy due to fish markets, hold onto your bags and wallets!!

Nice to see and central to several other sights. Enjoy the sight and a cup of coffee nearby. Worth stopping by to see

Slightly tucked away in the corner of the square but a very pretty fountain fed by the underground river. Behind it is the fish market - a must visit place.

may be it is a bit hidden on a corner of the Cathedral's Square but look carefully and you will find it..definitly an unusual location for a fontain but it is a really nice piece of art......

Very different if you visit in the morning or in the evening due to the fishmarket and lot of people. The smell of fish remains all the day but in the evening this place has another face.

The Fountain is very nice to see and to take photos but the restaurant at the back of this fountain is not good for families with children since there TV channel is on hard Porn Channel. Disgusting!

This is a beautiful fountain, you can't miss it whilst in Piazza Duomo. There is a few cafes close to this fountain too.

its like all other Piazzas , but more cousy..with both local and tourists are sitting around..you should see it somehow..

Although this fountain is lovely, it's not worth travelling miles just to see this one monument. There is a nice restaurant behind it called Ristorante Pellegrino. If you go there the Pesto Pasta is very nice. Don't order the spaghetti bolegnase though, as it was very oily!

Like a marble young god watching on the fish market (and the river Amenano flowing under), this statue was waiting for us outside the crowd. Very impressive !

This is a lovely fountain tucked away in the corner of the Piazza Duomo looking over the Fish Market. The fountain which represents the river Amenano as a young man holding a shell which the water flows from. The water from the fountain flows into a channel which goes under the Piazza.

Fontana dell'Amenano is in Piazza Duomo with the Fish Market at the rear of it. It is a beautiful sculpture and the rushing water is very refreshing in the heat of Catania.
