It is a nice piazza - but in February on a somewhat rainy day it did not seem overly special. Not much action or cafes open.
A spacious piazza framed by lovely old university buildings, it's a pleasure to walk through and is one of the nicest places in Catania. But really not a destination by itself so much as a thoroughfare.
i went to Catania for business and was quite impressed at how attractive the historical center was. Our hotel was near most of the sights and within a reasonable walk we could enjoy the city. Piazza univeristy was one of these. and it is really worth the walk, then continue on the duomo. etc.
It is a great piazza to sit at a café and enjoy your drink or ice-cream, while seeing locals strolling around. It is worth visiting both day and night, as there is a somewhat different feeling depending on the time of the day.
Great area to people watch and relax. Plenty of coffee shops and places to eat. Enjoy the atmosphere
It is a very beautiful square, along the main street of Catania, via Etnea. It's a perfect place for having a relaxing walg among historical palaces.
There is nothing special to be seen. it is continuation of the piazza duomo, and it is "fenced" by the baroque buildings...
A wonderfully spacious piazza situated just a block up from Piazza Duomo along Via Etnea. Sit in the shade for a moment and watch the tour groups filter in and out of the square, then continue along Via Etnea for some excellent window shopping. Compared to Piazza Duomo, it is quite empty during the day, probably since there's not much else to do here, anyway.
As you walk down Via Etna (the main shopping street) towards Piazza Duomo, you walk through the Piazza Universita. Wonderful buildings surround you. The sun shines, people mingle and chatter. The side streets off the piazza offer restaurants and cafes at all levels.
We had to pass from this square to reach other places. it is totally different at day than at night. A must see!!
There are many interesting square in Catania and you should not miss it as well.....I can't say it is the must in Catania but a aperitive sitting there will let you feel how the life goes there...
Beautiful architecture but we didn't go inside as there wasn't somewhere to say that you could. Nice to look at and admire.
A wide square near Duomo Square where you can enjoy the view of buildings from 17th and 18th century. It's one of the few peaceful locations in Catania not so crowded. It is something scenographic not to be missed.
Lots to see around this piazza but watch out for the beggars. We also spent some time waiting in a queue in the Banco Di Sicilio until we realised that the Cambio was in a little shop opposite.
This is a gorgeous square with a lot of life - especially in the evenings. There is several places to eat dinner or ice-cream around here. During our stay, they had one of those giant T.Vs set up and many locals brought fold away chairs with them in the evenings to watch the world cup matches. The architecture in the square is incredible!
