This museum has interesting pieces found in Morgantina. Also it houses The Venere of Morgantina, a piece of art returned to Italy from USA. Everything is beautilly displayed!However does not have any written information in any language and the staff was rude. Also the local people who live in the surrounded areas where disrespecful by watching the few tourist in the area and laughing at them. It was very unconfortable. The town does not have signs and not too many people know about the wonderful museum they have. A good campaign with Information is definitely needed for the locals and the tourist.

Well presented items and some beautiful pieces. Well worth a stop, but check the opening times - it's now closed on Sunday afternoons, not as per our (up to date) Rough Guide.

Now that the treasures of Morgantina (silver, the acroliths of statues of the goddesses Demeter and Persephone) have been returned, tis little provincial museum has become a national treasure. Excellent displays of the religious, civic, and domestic life of the area in the prehistoric and early historic past.

This museum is a must in combination with the ancient city of Morgantina. The tickets can be combined and entry is available for three days. The museum contains the wonderful and recently returned statue of Aphrodite, important in its own right but also as the focus of international attention on the acquisition policies of major museums. Other important finds from Morgantina are on show and as other reviewers have indicated there is not a lot of explanation. The building itself is quite beautiful and all the exhibits are well displayed. A simple guidebook would be really helpful. We were lucky enough to be staying in the local area and the owners of our villa had some good material available. I saw none of this in the local town!

This museum contains all the important items discovered in the ancient site of Morgantina, including some that have been returned from USA. Unfortunately, though well displayed, there is hardly any information about them, even in Italian. Having visited Morgantina, maps of which part of the site the items had been found would have helped. Later, we found a small shop where Lorenzo Camiolo makes and sells clay reproductions of some of the artifacts on display in the museum - (Bentornato Artigianato, Via Dominica Minolfi) There we were told that there used to be more information, but the current curator removed it, on the basis that the exhibits should speak for themselves!!

We travelled a long way to visit this museum famous for its ancient goddess statue recovered from the Getty Museum but was disappointed that photographs were prohibited - an out of date rule these days.

I really enjoyed my visit to this museum in inland Sicily. It is in an old monastery and houses some fascinating ancient finds. The most famous piece is the Goddess of Morgantina (a nearby archaeological site). Statues like the Dea of Morgantina are interesting because they are multimedia - skin is marble, clothes are stone and hair would have been clay, but that usually gets broken during the course of history. I don't remember much English-language information.

Non ero mai stata al museo archeologico, in realtà l ho conosciuto solo dopo aver saputo della Venere di Morgantina. In realtà è un piccolo gioiello, già l ingresso ti lascia immaginare cosa ti devi aspettare del percorso. L idea di posizionare delle panche davanti la statua della Venere è stato geniale perché puoi contemplare la sua bellezza.

Ho visitato tante volte il museo di Aidone, attratto prima dalla vasta collezione di reperti della preistoria e della protostoria siciliana, nonché dai reperti di epoca classica tra cui statue in terracotta di Demetra e Persefone (in diverse si legge anche la dipintura) ed una coppa megarese in sigillata italica di straordinaria fattura. La collezione è stata poi arricchita da pezzi veramente straordinari o unici: gli splendidi acroliti di Demetra e Kore, che accolgono dal fondo della sala il visitatore con il loro sorriso (arcaico) di divina comprensione. La statua della dea (per me più Persefone che Demetra) sembra venire incontro muovendosi leggera nello spazio, con i vestiti mossi dalla brezza del vento. Un'opera straordinaria della grecità classica. Infine, gli argenti di epoca ellenistica, che esprimono una maturità nella loro fattura rara se non unica. Il commento è tutto nello stupore di chi li osserva e nelle esclamazioni di meraviglia. I migliori orafi di oggi non saprebbero fare di meglio. Ottima, per gli spazi, la distribuzione di tutti i reperti.

Piccolo museo che merita una deviazione, non solo per la Venere e la sua storia ma anche per la collezione di oggetti d'argento della magna Grecia

Ad Aidone per la Dea di Morgantina, il museo ci accoglie. Attenzione, aperto solo la mattina perché il pomeriggio tutti trasferiti agli scavi. Il personale è cortese e amichevole però da migliorare la pulizia, il giardino esterno è un insieme di erbacce, i servizi sono ai minimi termini e non c'è il POS in biglietteria. Bene la possibilità di un biglietto unico assieme a Morgantina e mosaici di Piazza Armerina. Certo l'Europa dei piccoli musei è molto lontana....
