A terrific concept of fine music and fine food in a truly marvelous setting just south of Piazza Minerva in the gem of Ortigia. Beautiful, earth friendly vegan fare perfectly prepared and served in a gorgeously restored structure. On our recent visit we arrived just as the kitchen was about to close to prepare the room for the evening's concert. Barbara, the very attractive co-owner managed to convince the chef to warm something up for us. The chef smiled the entire time she prepared our delicious dinner of beet/carrot soup and a compelling tofu curry. There is a lot of love on display by Sicilians when it comes to food, but this really touched me. We returned later that evening for the inspired guitar work of Francesco Buzzaro. Great food, great music, great setting, great owner who really looked after us. Bellisima!
One of the places in Ortigia that stands out of the crowd. Barbara the lovely owner will explain the foods for you. A 1859 Steinway piano, a bar made of drawers, the small innercourt. Lovely.
Great vegan food, tasty & fresh. A wonderful find in Ortigia. Slightly lacking in atmosphere on our visit due to the torrential rain, which had prevented most customers venturing out. However, stimulating conversation with a lone American writer, accompanied by good food more than made up for this. We shall definitely be back in 2015.
Found this restaurant by pure chance , vegan food hard to come by in Italy ! Awesome food ! Cauliflower cous cous , seitan kebab , raw zucchini lasagne , and vegan brushetta ! Good wines too highly recommend
My wife and I were on our honeymoon in Sicily and spent a couply of days in Siracusa. One night we went to the beautiful Ortigia and had dinner at the Moon. This resturant is amazing! Nice, original and cozy atmosphere. They gave us a very romatic spot with a particular and awesome light, right by the piano. The staff is super nice and friendly, and Barbara is a delightful person to talk with. The food is an unforgettable experience, absolutely original, delicious and impressive at the same time. We loved it and can't wait to go back one day! We recommend this resturant to any couple, but also to a group of friends.
Being vegetarian and traveling in beautiful Sicily, I was quickly growing tired of eggplant, bread, cheese, and pasta. Talk about BLOAT and ... ummm... cloggy pipes, if ya know what I mean. Then I found Moon. HOLY MOLY! This place really rocked our socks off. Mom and I went there 4 times in the 4 days we stayed in Ortigia; it was our hands down favorite. And she is NOT vegetarian, let alone vegan. But Moon is. What an escape. Everything there was amazing, from anything we tried on the Menu (highly recommend the Moon Sampler plate so you get a little of all their weekly offerings). I'm pretty sure the owner said the menu changes weekly. The coffee with soy milk was crazy good. The desserts! All of it. And there was live music almost nightly. I can't recommend this place enough. You'll want to live there. Trust me.
When we left our restaurant where we had dinner we heard the wonderful music from this venue so headed up there and then spent next 2 hours drinking wine & listening to some great musicians pump some of bluesy & rock/pop tunes e.g. janis joplin, beatles, led zeppelin and there own songs as well. It was a great night in a venue with a great vibe. Didn't get to try the food but everyone that was eating looked happy & the service was very good. The owners seem to be really putting a lot of effort into making the venue work both as both a food & music destination. If in Ortgia and want an alternative night or lunch with entertainment check out whats happening there. We had a great time here. Well done Moon people
I went to MOON for Sunday lunch as there was a local string quartet playing. The atmosphere was lovely and held in a beautiful, airy and contemporary restaurant. I ordered the MOON plate which was a taster of 8 different dishes. It was well presented; colourful and interesting. I enjoyed the variety of textures and tastes. Even as a carnivore, I didn't feel as though I needed any meat, as the flavours were refreshing and different. I liked the courgette spaghetti with a wonderful cashew sauce. The music was lovely and really added something to the mix. The service was of a good standard. I would recommend this as a taste of something different.
Moon is a vegetarian restaurant and culture venue. We had the 'taster plate' which provided a sample of most items on the menu. All were delicious, as were the desserts. The wine list was small but reasonably priced. An excellent jazz band was playing on the evening that we were there. When we passed at other times there were small classical ensembles giving recitals. The room was elegant and spacious. The service was friendly and helpful. We thought that Moon provided excellent value for money.
We ate really imaginative, tasty dishes at MOON. Excellent local wines too. The Moon plate is a real feast - an opportunity to sample most items on the menu and with such generous portions I couldn't finish my plate. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and service was efficient. There was also beautiful live music to accompany a wonderful lunch. Thank you.
After days of wanting to dine here, we ventured on in to Moon. Atmosphere was very relaxed and contemporary. We had a bruschetta to start with and share which was lovely, a real mix of different flavours. Following this I ordered the courgette spaghetti and my fiancé ordered the ratatouille. Both were a mixed fusion of flavours and a very alternative spin on vegetarian cuisine. I personally didn't overly like the courgette spaghetti- however this was more to my own personal preferences with food, the quality of it was spectacular. The lady offered to get me something else which was kind, however I had some of my partners ratatouille which was simply stunning and tasty. I should have ordered that. Service was great and it's not too pricey. I highly recommend this if you're looking for an alternative dining experience.
I'm not a vegetarian but the food is so tasty you won't miss the meat at all. The owner is absolutely lovely and kind, the place looks gorgeous and, last but not least, the live music is great. Come and visit them, you won't regret doing so!
we were lucky enough to spend our holiday next door to Moon, so made the mos of the life music, good food, and generally fabulous place that is Moon. Barbara is a great host, and we especially loved the tempura, and tiramisu, and the nibbles when just having a beer. There's outdoor table space as well as the beautiful main space. Looking forward to seeing what else develops at Moon.
I must admit I am not usually fan of vegetarian cuisine, but this restaurant was a wonderful surprise. Really excellent, original recipes and taste associations with a mix of local and foreign flavours. I strongly suggest the "platter with a little bit of everything", because everything deserves to be tried !Plus : we had a guitar live show, which was nice. The room is beautiful (if you like contemporary/pure style). The back garden was not so great because all the air conditioners noise and heat, so we chose to sit inside which was very nice in the end.
Locale molto carino, staff accogliente e cibo buonissimo! Sono stata di sera li con il mio uomo e a dare un tocco in piu é stata l'atmosfera del locale molto romantica con luci soffuse.
