We travelled from Bergen to Oslo and it took approx 7.5hrs but it didn't feel that long because the views were so nice. We did have to get a coach from Bergen to Voss due to maintenance work on the tracks. This took approx 2 hours but the views were still pretty impressive. I don't think we would have got to see these views if we were on the train because there looked to be quite a lot of tunnels the train goes through. There is an onboard cafe which sells hot/cold food and there's a good selection of hot/cold drinks. They are also quite reasonably priced compared to other places in Norway. The train does sometimes stop at stations for a couple of minutes so there is opportunity to take some nice photos.Make sure you book tickets before you go on the NSB website. You can book 90 days in advance, we booked ours for 249kr each which is approx £20 which is a bargain. If only we had cheap train fares like that in the UK.
The Railway line from oslo to bergen run by bergen railways are the one of the top scenic route. The travel takes for 6 to 7 hrs but you will be enjoying every bit of time. I suggest to take the train during morning after 10am.
Stunning landscapes along this rail line between Bergen and Oslo. It is a fairly long train ride from end to end, but the scenery definitely keeps you occupied. Rail cars can get a bit crowded near the ski town stops due to the extra gear those passengers bring along.
We took the train from Oslo to Bergen to pick up a cruise. The scenery was spectacular. We went in winter and it looked like a fluffy white duvet was covering the ground. There were lakes, streams and waterways, some frozen and some running through snow covered rocks. We paid a little extra for the Komfort carriage. It is well worth it for the circa 6 hour trip. You can book online but only 3 months before your travel date. It's a great way to travel from Oslo to Bergen or vice versa. Affordable, easy, scenic. I can imagine it would be just as beautiful in summer.
I liked the view and architecture. Looks old fashion and nice :) You have a small lobby but has internet access ;)
This trip takes around 7 hours. We had great company and it was pleasure to go on this trip.i recommend it a lot.
I took the train from Oslo to Bergen. Very scenic and comfortable ride. Had no problems getting to the train platform, on the train, luggage storage, etc. Every stop we made, the conductor made the annoucements in Norwegian and English. Made things much easier for me. There is a small, but nice food car, with what you would need to get by on the trip. Very good experience.
I prefare to do this trip late autoumn or late spring. Doesn't matter which direction., west to east or the other way around. You go from sea level to 1250 meters (3700 feet) above and down hill to the sea, experiencing both the green spring time and the winter. The trip takes 6 hours so you will make sure you have a book in your lap. But somehow you will not read many pages because of the view. I have been on the last train crossing over the mountain without getting stuck in the snow. Dodgeing out of the tunnels slowing down as you plow into the snow before heading into the next tunnel picking up new speed. Exciting. I sometimes hope that we'll fasten in the snow and have to wait for rescue. This happens very rarely, but it happens...
Wonderful experience to travel in train across Norwegian beautiful landscape. Sit back relax & enjoy the views. Must place trip !!!
For anyone thinking of travelling from Oslo to Bergen, there is really only 1 form of transport you should take and that is the railway. It certainly has to rank as one of the best train trips in the world in any season. We did it in Winter and it was just superb
Sit back, look out the window, enjoy the ride. This is a great way to see Norway, the small towns, mountains and of course Finse. This railway is also connected to Flåm railway.
if you have time you should take this train rise across the country. It is incresible beautiful and take you through landscapes you have never seen.
Me and my dad took a trip to Norway a few years ago, we went for a trip in the Bergen railway. The trip is a few hours long, maybe a little too long for some. You can jump on and off the train at different stops along the way, although the views were pretty amazing with the view of the snowy mountains and the sea. Food was severed on the train by staff, it was severed more than once due to the length of the journey.
When we arrived at the Bergen station we had to get our Eurail tickets validated. The friendly staff at the station helped us and were able to explain how our reservations worked. Once on the train we got to look at the amazing beauty that is Norway. We went from Bergen to Flåm, then from Flåm to Oslo. The ride was comfortable and the trains were on time.
