if you want to touch the history of the city, you should visit the museum of Jan Becher. In this building, there were a fabric making the liquere from I guess 18.. dont know the exact date. The recepture is world original and its is one of the KArlovy Vary unique product. The thirteen quell. :)Unfrtunately the fabric with its very specific smell during the cooking the liquere was moved to the new fabrique on the edge of the city. Bud the museum is still in the same place as was it in history.
The visit is quite short but you get 3 shots of the liquor at the end, the only shame is that you cannot choose which ones so they were not exactly to our taste. The entrance fee is less than what you would pay in a bar.
The place is famous for Becherovska drink and the museum shows us why. It details how the drink came into existence and about its finders. In the end, they also have a tasting session. I am not very sure if people visiting Karlovy Vary will prefer this place to the grand outdoors. But if you have time to kill, this place should be checked out.p.s. Do have lunch in the in house restaurant. Food is quite good.
The famous alcoholic and herbal drink Becherovka is made in this town. The tour shows you how the drink is made and gives you a fascinating history. We don't like this drink, but the tour was very interesting. Only two people in the world know the formula for making this drink.
It was an average trip and caused disruption to our schedule because the english tour was only operating at 1 p.m.We were forced to eat in the complex but without much time to spare but there was a coffee shop with an awesome salmon sandwich and equally good coffee. It was the highlight of the trip as the museum tour was actually not good at all.Won't recommend!
The herbal liquer Becherovka is so called 13th spa spring of Karlovy Vary. It has more than 200 years tradition. Within guided tour (in EN, RU, DE or CZ) you get a lot of interesstig information about Becher´s family and production of this liquer. You will also taste 3 kinds of Becherovka. After the tour you can also buy some souvenirs in the factory store (e.g. tin cup for hot Becherovka)
For all connoisseurs of alcohol (but not only for them) this museum is a must. Within 2 hours you get all the information about the history of Beher's family and their famous baby called Beherovka. At the end of the visit you can buy all kind of liquid souvenirs.
Only guided tour. We made our schedule so we could arrive at the starting point in time. Generous description offered by guide. Tried all Becherovka types. Bought all of them from the shop located near the museum. Spent some nice time after visiting on the pub located near the shop&museum. Worth it all!
My husband wanted to tour the factory as he enjoys chilled Becherovka every once a while. We toured and sampled different kinds of liquors.
Remember the visit just because I had t run through the whole city to be in time for excursion. Nothing catching. Better buy a bottle of Becherovka in BILLA supermarket near by and drink it in a good company!
The tour was very quick and hurried, and only lasted for about 20 minutes. Lots of mannequins. I was expecting more information about how Becherovka is actually made, but it was more just a brief history. At the end we sat through a 10 minute video while sampling 3 types of Becherovka. The samples just about justified the 120czk admission fee.
It's a perfect example of how museum of a regional specialty should be done. I definetely recommend this 40-minute trip (especially that at the end you get to taste 3 kinds of Becherovka) and seeing a beaufitul plaza in the middle of the building.
The history of Becherovka is fascinating and even though the beverage is no longer brewed in the centre of town, the museum gives a good insight of how the famous drink came into being. We were offered 3 different types of Becherovka to taste all inclusive. The tour cost €10 for a family group. (Orange drink for the under 18's). Do remember that the Czech drink and drive law is strict - zero alcohol allowed so whoever is not the designated driver does well on the tour.
Jan Becher Museum also provides tour through and I would personally say that it does worth to go! Interesting history and also the tasting of few kinds of Becherovka on the end! :)
