Its a column. Join the walking tour if you want to hear about the history. Its interesting and in the middle of the square but what more can one say?

The column is in the town square in Cesky Krumlov. The square is worth a visit. The column is in the square so you might as well have a look at it. Allow maybe 5 minutes if that. If you're into plagues or columns you might push it out to 10 minutes,

Many European towns and cities have their plague columns, and the small but beautiful Cesky has one in its town square, a focal point for people meeting or for enjoying a coffee in the small cafes around it.

Another medieval addition to the multitude of decorations and photo opportunities of Cesky Krumlov. It is a water basin with statues around it and plague column in the middle, scuplted by a Prague artist Matěj Václav Jäckel. Good to see and hard to miss given the small size of Cesky Krumlov, although nothing breathtaking.

The column provides a nice photo stop with or without people. This one of many columns in the Czech Republic is to remember those who died by the plague. The square and it's colourful buildings around the column is picturesque. Not far from here down a side street is a great viewing area to take photos of the castle and other parts of the town.

Cesky Krumlov is a lovely town with quaint narrow streets, this column is just one of the historic landmarks this town has to offer!

Pride of place in the main square. Nothing special and each town seems to have one but interesting none the less.

It's a column...in the square. I know it has cultural significance but, quite frankly, stop on your way by, take a picture, and that's about it.

Has some historical significance and helps make the central square look nicer, but its not really something to take much more time then a walk around to look at and take a few pictures. If you do a walking tour you will hear about the history.

The fact that there are column everywhere we went dedicated to the Holy Trinity in commemoration of the Black Plague is sobering and a testament to the fact that the things we read in history books really happened to real people. But that is the way it is all over Eastern Europe.

A nice photo opportunity if you are passing through the Namesti Svornosti (market square) while in Cesky Krumlov.

The pillar was erected in 1716 as a reminder of the plague period in 1680 and out of graditude for the end of the last plague pandemic which haunted the Czech Republic two years earlier. The sculpture group was created by the Prague sculptor Matěj Václav Jäckel (1655-1738) and consist of the statue of the Virgin Maria Immaculata, images of Rochus of Montpellier (Saint Roch, also known as Rock or Rocco, specially invoked against the plague, patronage of the saint who recovers from the plague), St. Francisus, St. Sebastian and St. Cajetan of Thiene, and standing at the Cobbles the patron saints of the city: holy Wenceslaus I (Duke of Bohemia), St. Vitus, John the Evangelist and St. Jude Thaddaeus (Jude the Apostle).
