For any stranger comming to this city it is unusual view, just above main city´s square on the rock, there is a true gem among castles. Take the steep climb and explore the castle´s entire complex,it is worth of it.Very popular in Slovakia too, and for people living in Trencinit is a source of proud. History of the city is well documeted /179 A.D./ by Roman Empire inscription carved into the castle rock. This is possible to see from special window in Hotel Elisabeth, don´t miss this one as well.

An ancient castle on the hill top. Be prepared to climb a lot of steps. The views are good and the castle itself has been well preserved. The surrounding area is a good summer day out but most places are shut in the winter and there isn't a great deal there. Worth a visit to Trencín for the highly unusual castle though.

We came to this beautiful city to assist to our friends wedding. We had chance to get to know the city, church and Hotel Pod Hradom. All of them were really nice and definitelly worth visiting.

Beautiful castle but a lot of steps. The view is breathtaking. The tour which is obligatory was only in Slovak. They had printouts explaining few rooms but they were tethered to the walls so hard to walk around and see what they were saying. If the tour was not mandatory it might prove worth paying for it.

If you walk through the old town you enjoy an astonishing view over the Trencin castle. It is a pity however that the opening hours of the castle are too short - they close very early in the afternoon so that the businessmen have a very little chance to visit it inside. But it is worth seeing it even from outside

We didn't arrange well enough in advance to schedule an English tour, but we were given English pamplets to read along with the tour guide. It's amazing history and views from the top will definitely impress you! A lot of uphill walking to get to the top, so wear comfortable shoes! :)

It may have been because today is a public holiday, but we were told at 11:30 that we would have to wait until 12:45. The castle looks impressive from below, especially if you view it from the north west. It is impressive from the old town square. The walls and ditches on the otherside show how well this castle was fortified as well as its size.We enjoyed the parks outside the castle walls. There are many well maintained tracks, a well as a 1944/1945 Nazi uprising monument and picnic tables. The locals walked/jogged and pushed prams through the park. We also saw the larger homes in Trencin on our walk back down to the square. They are on the hill and have a similar view as the castle......although limited today because of fog.

This is a very accessible castle right in the center of this charming town. The interiors are quite interesting but the views over the city are what make it spectacular. The castle and grounds have been excellently restored.

We've been in Trencin only to see the castle, from distance it was AMAZING. On the hill, it was visible from far, far away! You have to climb a little to see th castle. There was something disturbing for me about this castle - there were birds on chains. Huge birds witout possibility to fly, on chains. But the castle is nice, it was rebuilt I think and now there are many cultural events going on. If you are expecting great view from the hill you may be a little bit dissapointed - Trencin is an industrial city, there is only small Old Town. You can see many factories on the other side. It is beautiful from the distance, not so sure about the inside of the castle.

The castle has a couple of haves and have nots. It is an impressive building and there are great views at the city below. But should you expect an exhibition, there is really not much to see inside, as the castle has burned out in 1790 and has not been inhabited since.

This is a great castle to explore inside and out, and was easy to just purchase tickets when we arrived with no real planning. The tour was in Slovak, but we had an English booklet which helped, though it is hard to keep up with reading and trying to see everything at the same time. It still enhanced our visit so much by learning some of the history as it is very interesting. The Falconry show was very well done, and the girls working there were very kind and helpful, and we appreciated their effort to answer our questions in English! (which they spoke very well)It was easy to spend several enjoyable hours here, and would not miss it!

We were at the Castle entrance for the 0900 opening time.We opted not to pay for a full tour, but to pay instead for the Castle tower and grounds without guide ticket.Even before we climbed to the top of the tower, there were great views of the area from the upper courtyard.Within the courtyard was a small theatre area,a compound with some lovely birds such as owls,falcons,etc.. and an archery stall,an old style Merry-go-round and stall where they will make you jewellery such as horse shoe necklaces,etc...There are goats living within the Castle ground,a couple of which are approachable/pettable. The view from the tower is worth the climb. There are falconry displays in the courtyard from 1000.The official tourist souvenier shop is pretty poor, but there is another only yards away with muc better stuff....We spent a very enjoyable couple of hours there and would genuinely recommend the Castle as well worth seeing!!

Really enjoyed the castle, the view, the small shop and everything else, until we noticed the birds of prey that were held captive. There were probably around 10 different kinds of birds, among them at least one eagle. This was horrible to see, and I really hope that they will change this.

Trencin and the castle are a great day trip from Bratislava. Trencin castle is a bit of a hike to get to the top but you can take your time we did it with our 5 and 3 year old grand children. All along the way are great photo ops. Trencin is a clean and quaint little town. Things are cheaper here than they are in Bratislava which isn't expensive itself. The Coffee Sheep near the base of the castle had great warm beverages too.
