新馆开幕只有半年，从一进大门就被景观及玻璃与金属构成的建筑物迷住了。由于是日本建筑师设计的，庭园景观及水泥步道线条都隐约披露日式风格。餐厅很贵超过30欧，不过参观永久性展览不需门票。展示手法新颖，不以地区或种类分类，在内侧墙上有一道时间标示，各文物由西元前三千年开始交错排列，可以观察到在同一时间点不同文化的文物并加以比较，可惜因只限罗浮宫馆藏没有东方文物可以并列，否则更具世界观。Lens离巴黎两百公里若行程是由巴黎开车往布鲁塞尔绝对值得稍绕路参观。

2500 BC to the modern times in an airy, modern layout. Art works from Bronze Age Egypt, classical Roman, Gothic and modern Europe in a stunning modernist setting. This is not a stuffy art gallery - it is an example of how archaeology, architecture and art can be combined to put an ex-mining town on the 21st Century tourist map.

Louvre Lens is a new way of wandering through history. In a huge, modern hall one starts on 3500 bc and every step you make, the visitor makes a leap in history until 1900. At every era, different cultures are set together. An excellent way of seeing how art influenced art. Moreover, free entrance until end of 2015 !Sanitary installations are great. Lockers free. Plenty of room ... Just the food and beverages are mediocre but this is compensated by a free lunch room where sandwiches can be eaten.

As a seasoned gallery visitor, it was with embarrassment that this gem had passed me by. Sitting next to the football stadium it is a stunning building that is incongruous with the drive through town. On entry, it's a bit confusing as you have to get a ticket even though entry is free. It is then the museum comes into its own. As you stand at the beginning of the exhibits the whole timeline of man's creativity stretches before you. Well not exactly, but the concept and space attempt to do that and make a good attempt. No moving from room to room, people flitting from exhibit to exhibit, a comfortable noise level. Depending on taste, the movement through the museum leaves it to you decide where the greatest achievements are. An astonishing collection set to be a major attraction.

This gallery is glorious - a shiningly beautiful piece of architecture (the light and space inside is luminous) in a sad and depressed area of Northern France. And the layout of the gallery is so imaginative and original. The idea of a timeline - so you look in 'bands' at art works which were contemporary with each other from all over the world - is so obvious when it's accomplished like this, that you wonder why it hasn't been done (to my knowledge, anyway) elsewhere before.The collection, too is wonderful - with a beautiful Raphael, a charming Botticelli Madonna, a lively Goya portrait and a slightly spooky Carlo Crivelli. You'll find many hidden gems here, alongside new discoveries. The gallery is quiet and peaceful, an oasis of beauty in this rather desolate landscape. And free too - an experience not to be missed and it's just so great that the Louvre is making this effort to reach out with its collection. Other museums take note!

It is nice to see art from the Louvre in the north. some permanent exhibitions and some changing. all of them inspiring and impressive. If you have 2-4 hours free do not miss this museum

the louvre is a very interesting place this being my first time here it was great . We only stay for 45 minuets to see the Mona Lisa but walking threw the painting were amazing . I would go in May so there is very low crowds . Great day out

Great place to spend an afternoon if you like checking out museums .Added bonus its free until december 2014.

It is a very interesting and original approach by the Japanese architects. The shiny metal constantly provides different reflections both outside and inside the museum. The items that are exhibited per time period rather that by style make fora better historic understanding. Full marks for this innovative museum.

It's interesting enough to build a gallery over a pit head where the mine underneath would have been arranged in, well, galleries. In one respect it's an enormous long shiny metal shed, in another it's a way to lay out art in a time line that compares what was going on in the world of art and artefacts in different places at similar times.It's an eclectic collection from a French view. Some things from antiquity are conspicuous by their absence - China and Japan for example. But overall it works and it's a great 90 minute stroll. If you go by car there's plenty of parking but then a bit of a walk. Don't eat in the on site restaurant, go across the road to Cafe Cathy - cheap and authentic.

We visited this impressive edition to The Louvre when it was just opening last year ( sorry forgot to write about it) it is easy to find, easy to park, the entrance was free, we got free interactive head phones with the tour of the whole museum, you didn't even need to walk around the iPads would take around with a full commentary. We loved our visit and hopefully will go back to see exhibitions. The weather was perfect and we purchased traditional French food and drink from the buffet restaurant and sat outside for lunch.

although built on an old cole mine , the"" dependence LOUVRE"" at LENS is absolutely FABOULUS and one of the very best museums I have seen on earth..............The corridor spaced museum with the time line on the wall gives you a guidance which art at what time frame in which part of EUROPE ws made.A great way to walk through a museum and together with the audio tour explenation it is a museum you will enjoy for more then 3 hrs.GREAT and the most greatest thing is that every thing is free; there even is a free shuttle bus to and from the LENS train station which runs every twenty minutes.

Not a gallery but a very enjoyable museum. Very modern and clean with excellent exhibits and a roomy timeline layout. The exhibits are well explained and the layout enables close viewing and there are plenty of circulating and resting areas.Good facilities for refreshment and toilets.

Having been to the Louvre Paris so many times, we did not know what to expect in Lens. It was busy on a Sunday afternoon. The open nature of the place, the modern design and the good information given for each piece shown is high class. The interactive basement exhibits are equally good. The open space, means that you do not seem squeezed when looking at anything. A very modern place that effectively begins the decentralization process needed to get more of the Louvre to the French population. Parking is a challenge as there is no mention of the shuttle to parking lots. Otherwise you have to park a ways a ways. Better publicity about the parking would be helpful. The grounds are new and still need work but the core design is wonderful. For 4.5 euro entry price, you cannot go wrong.
