Oh this is so beautiful, the scenery is amazing, it looks like a picture postcard. A very twisty drive but so worth it. What a beautiful part of Ireland it is.
The Conor Pass and Slea head,is the epitomy of the unspoilt, natural, beautiful Ireland we see in tv and movies at its very finest. If you are a tourist and looking for the Irish traditional experience this is the place.Sheep on the road, mountains, green fields etc.If you are irish and want to see just how beautiful our country really and truly is, put down your chain-restaurant coffee, pack a flask and go.
Truly a wonderful experience, We stayed in Dingle for the Easter break, a pretty straight road up to the viewing area, but after that, you have the road down, a twisty, turny, narrow, shear drops on one side, unsteady cliffs on the other, certainly one for the driver who wants the experience, I know a lot of foreigners are horrified by this road, specially if they are on a bus!Less of the road anyway, there is a lovely glacial lake about half way down called peddlers lake, you'll find it by looking for a small waterfall, there is a car pull in point right next to it, then you have to scamper up the mountain side for about 300ft, you'll find one of the most idyllic spots in the world, believe me, it's worth it. The view itself from the top of the pass is really impressive and overlooks a really big glacial valley, the view seems to look slightly not of this world, maybe because of the Atlantic coastal barrenness of it all. You cannot come to Dingle and not visit this place, it is possible to take another road, which is really scenic too, but this is the one, but beware, weather permitting the upper parts can be covered in cloud, so zero visibility, and the road slippy. So make sure you do this on a good day, then it looks beautiful rather than a foggy damp place.I have been up and down the Conor pass many times over the years, and highly recommend it, enjoy!!
If going to or from dingle, take this route at least once. The views are breathtaking. The road is pure fun to drive. To us, dingle itself was pretty bland. The roads we took coming and going on the other hand presented lots of "pull over for picture" moments.
Drove through here stunning views all around have the camera at the ready. Several place to pull in and park to admire properly.
Nothing to dislike. In stark contrast to Slea Head which we visited te previous day, but nearly as spectacular. We visited in the middle of winter and it was beautiful. Only half an hour outside of Dingle with the most spectacular scenery. Do not miss this gem!!
Lovely but slightly scary drive! A super narrow, bendy road with one side of rock (often falling) and the other side a cliff, with the occasional sheep on the road. There's a lovely viewpoint at the top, so hope for a clear day!
Loved the roads twists and bends. The weather changes often so it was different on the way home. Views changing all the time!
We were able to talk our tour guide (with a small van) into driving the Conor Pass. It happened to be a sunny and clear day so he agreed. When you approach the road going up the mountain there are "Very Dangerous" and "Proceed at Your Own Risk" types of signs and if you do it, you will know why. There is a large area at the top to stop and take the most beautiful photos you can imagine ... but it's got to be a clear day. It was an awesome and a little scary drive, but worth every minute of it.
There wasn't anything I disliked about this drive. Small lakes nestled in between the mountains is just beautiful. Many photo ops on this drive
Connor Pass is the highest mountain pass in Ireland, and there is only room for one car in some places! These one lane sections are a little scary, even though we are used to Colorado mountain driving; however, drivers all seemed to be cautious and use common sense. En route, there is a small waterfall and apparently a larger waterfall nearby; we couldn't figure out where the trail is, no signs, but apparently the hike up to the larger waterfall is there somewhere. The ice cream truck parked at the top of the pass in the parking lot is very good; she prefers euros.
We drove over in a gale about 100 mph but it was a gorgeous view and well worth the trip into Dingle from Galway. One of the most beautiful views in Ireland, and there are many!
This was another find of my husband's, but I'm so glad we made the drive. The views were just beautiful, and the people we met along the way were wonderful. Plus, we had some of the yummiest ice cream I've ever had from an ice cream truck at the top of the pass :) I'm extremely happy we took the time to enjoy the drive, the scenery, and even the tons of sheep that wander along the road!
Great views and an exciting experience if driving it yourself. I was ready for the narrow roads until it became barely wide enough for one car and on the edge of the mountain. Not really bad, you just have to pay attention. Being from the US, the left hand drive added to the challenge. Great fun and great views.
superb panorama, lake speckled valley far below, Mount Brandon to the West and Brandon Bay to the South.Road is not for the feint hearted necessitating one way driving at times and with a sheer fall to the valley below.Be sure to stop below Pedlar's Lake to soak up the view.
