Make sure to visit Naturum, an attractive spot on the bay with a lunch cafe, small centre with information about local flora and fauna and some interactive activities for children. A theatre upstairs usually plays a short film by nature videographer Bo Landin about Värmland's wildlife which is worth watching. Out in the park there is a bird watching trail, walks through the forest and a variety of playgrounds on the upper and lower levels of the park. Go exploring towards the back of the upper park and you will find smaller old-style Swedish buildings, one of which is a waffle house, as well as a small farm with animals - both outside and in a barn - which is also popular with children.

On this park several geocaches could be found and thus we visited it and dound that if you were to have kids, it would be the perfect place to take them on a free afternoon. However given the fact that we were all students we did not really have that connection. Overall the park was clean but was undergoing some big construction works, which deminished the atmosphere in the park a bit.

Very nice park, with a lot of things to do for kids. As a recomandation, visit the park on sunny days. Free parking nearby, easy to get there using the bike, or taking a 20 minutes walk (from center). It also offers the possibility to get your kids familiar with some domestic animals (pigs, goat, ducks, rabbits). Also it offers a very nice view of the lake

We went here with our son, daughter in law & granddaughter it was a lovely walk along the river to get there and it was a lovely sunny afternoon. Obviously being with our granddaughter we checked out the play park and petting farm. The animals seemed to be well looked after. There was a nice enclosure were you could get 'hands on' with the animals. The only downside there were no staff members about to answer questions. There was a cafe on site although we didn't check it out & picnic areas although the wasps were out on force the day we were there. It is also free admission.

A great little beach with a grass field in the back, playgrounds, ice cream, great trails in the woods (with trolls), bird watching and close to the city. The perfect spot for a family vacation outing. We actually spent both our days in Karlstad here with the kids!

Place is perfect for family with kids. They have a small beach facing the river as well. where you can swim a little bit. Not sure though if its clean.

Mariebergskogen is a place for the whole family with a lot of simple attractions for everyone. On a normal (summer) day you can go there for mini-golf, museum, bathing in the river, walk around the “wild” animals, or just for a nice walk in the forest. There is a fine playground for the children as well.If I get a visit from friends who's never been in Karlstad this is one of the first places I think of to go relax with them.

Absolutely worth a trip. Nice place in the woods. Lots of animals to watch, and some to pat. The area is not too large and there are lots of places to relax, and to get something to eat.

We had our corporate Christmas lunch at this location, a fantastic offer of various Swedish snacks that go with the traditional "julbord". The choice was abundant and the quality of food very high. Staff were friendly as well. I would recommend this place.

Big fun for the kids - mini-train takes them around the park. You find playgrounds, animals, a lovely beach, a very nice museum and different interesting exhibitions. For nature-and birdlovers there is a birdwatching tower and tracks in the wood. The food in the restaurant and café of "Naturum" is very good. Made from locally produced products, ecological, homemade and - fresh! There is an other well spoken of restaurant, and in the park you find little kiosks with ice-cream and so.A really nice place to spend a day!

This is a very nice place. It´s partly a fixed exhibition regarding the animals, insects, birds, fish and trees in Värmland. They also has a part where photoexhibitions alternate. Photos of the nature. They sell lots of interesting and fun things in their shop. They try to keep it local and also with tought to the environment. There is a lot to do and see even for the reallly small children. The have av small but very good restaurant where they also try to keep it local, fair-trade etc.The nature outside is beautiful with plenty of walks to choose from. Towers to watch birds from.If you come to Karlstad - this is the place not to miss.

This is a really good place for a family outing, but it has plenty to offer for adults, too. Mariebergsskogen is accessible by car, bus 12, or water bus line 91. It is a beautiful park with a little but very nice exhibit/museum (The Naturum) about the surrounding nature. There is a small forest, a little mill house, a playground for kids, ice cream stand, etc. For me the best part was The Naturum, it's cafe (try the local apple juice, it's wonderful!) with tasty open-face sandwiches and cakes, and the surrounding marsh. It's so peaceful and beautiful there. We took the water bus from downtown Karlstad. You can get info and buy a day pass for the water busses at the Toruist office at the library. Mariebergsskogen wouldn't be fun in pouring rain, but Karlstad is known as the sunny city and it certainly was the day we visited Mariebergsskogen. (Maria Mountain Forest in Swedish)
