This is a must do point, if you have longer stay on Lithuania west coast. It's located appr. 60 km from Klaipeda, and worth a short visit, also including neighbourhood locations ( Minge, Silute, Dreverna ).The location has one of the oldest ornitology station in Europe. This year one and are around has been under heavy reconstruction, but hopefully in 2015 everything will be ready. The most beautiful is the scenery around.
It is very peaceful place, not so far from Klaipeda. There are old beautiful lighthouse, ornithological center (one of the oldest in EU), nice Kursiu Nerija view and a lot of water around! Nature is magic there. After that we went to Šturmų Šviturys restaurant (I must say, I don't eat fish, but the fish-soup was great there! I recommend it!).On the way to Vente Cape (from Klaipeda) we crossed 'Klaipedos (Vilhelm) channel'- 25 km long, 1,7 m depth, 28 m width, dig by French prisoners (1863-1873). It is unbelievable...
Nice, quiet, unspoiled nature, minimum inhabitants, peaceful place where you can spend quality time in the nature. Specially looks great if the day is really nice and sunny :)
I have to admit that I really enjoy the Curonian Spit and its surroundings. Beautiful for a bike excursion, getting on a boat to the other side and then back to Klaipeda. We were there in winter - amazing. The "Haff" is frozen even though the Baltic Sea is still open. Go for a walk and have a view you can't encounter anywhere else in Europe.
Interesting for the people, who like nature. In April, May when sun shines serpents are lying on the stones between road and lagoon. Amazing view. I can not say, that only Vente Cape is interesting. The excursion must begin in Kintai - a large 100 years old thuja in the Foresry's garden (branches descend to the ground), a museum of Vydūnas 1868 - 1953 (philosopher, writer, journalist and cultural figure). After village Kintai ends must look for the cognitive trail along the lagoon. It lasts few kilometers. After Vente Cape must go back and turn to the right and look for the another turn to the right before high bridge and go to Mingė village - Venice of Lithuania. River Minija is the "street" of this village. Pay attention at the architecture of the old fishermen's houses. Also here you will found a big yacht harbor. Around these places can found few restaurant to eat fish meals. I wish you a good day by the Curonian Lagoon.
This place called Lithuanian Venice, due to Nemunas river having it's delta there. Old lighthouse and Ornithology station - are also must to visit ones. Quite unique possibility to see birds migration and ornithologist putting rings (for accounts and monitoring purposes) on birds. There are large nets and it is better to plan your visit during migration (spring or autumn) There is also very nice restaurant nearby Sturmu Svyturis - fresh fish dishes and other delicatessen from fish
