I've been here a lot with my kids over the years although I would recommend calling here on a dry day where you can take full advantage of the gardens and all the knocks and crannies, bring a picnic too and read about the history , I know you can't climb the walls but we did and all enjoyed it , there's a Carpark too . This place is on the main road to Belleek from enniskillen and not far from a little castle which we all enjoyed called monea , look it up too , great to bring the kids if they re bored over the holidays or lazy Sundays
I have passed the sign for this castle dozens of times and now regret never visiting before. This is an extremely well maintained site with a small cottage converted into a visitor/information center, with toilets at the entrance. The castle ruins are well presented with small but neat formal gardens.A large parking area and lots of open grass area for play/picnic. Tarmac road and path around visitor center for access, 50yds of cobble-like path up to Castle would be bumpy but not impossible for wheelchair access.Follow the gravel path down to the edge of the lough, take time to include a short walk along the waters edge path to add stunning views. This stop was thoroughly enjoyed by my young children with a variety of scenery and sights to occupy them.Easily the best stop on the west shore of Lower Lough Erne for a break and picnic.
I have visited this place a number of times. It is particularly good when the visitors cottage is open. Sometimes the castle is locked and that's disapointing. A very interesting remenant of the terrible times in the 1600s. Even when the castle is locked the grounds are pretty and there is a lovely lough shore walk. The scenery on the approach to the castle is stunning!
This castle ruin, from the 14th century, is located just off the road that runs along the west side of Lough Erne. There is no admission charge. It has a small visitors center and well maintained castle ruins. There is also a paved path which you can take by foot down to the lake. It can be visited in an hour or less
On a recent trip to Ireland, we came across Tully Castle on our map and decided to check it out. When we arrived, we found the place deserted, but the gates were open. We were able to walk to the castle and through the gardens, but the castle itself had a padlock preventing our entry. There were some nice views to be had from the grounds, but I certainly would not note this as a must-see in the winter. I'd like to stop by again during the summer to see the place when it's actually open!
