exmoor owl & hawk centre

Despite the inclement weather Cathy and Rod made our visit a superb and intimate experience. We flew owls in the barn and then took advantage of a break in the weather to fly a hawk and buzzard in the field.

What a magical place, lovely grounds with great bird shows and such well informed staff, add to this the excellent value for money and for adults and children fun, then finish off with a cream tea, perfect!

First reaction was seems bit small and run down, and at £10 each, wondered if it was going to be worth it, but paid on basis you are helping the wildlife they look after. We arrived around 1:30 ready for the 2:30 free flying display. Nice little tea rooms and we saw a number of owls in their homes, mainly rescued ones that cannot go back to wild. We sat on picnic bench for display and were greeted by a chap who clearly Around 30 or so people there, but it felt like it was a personal display, he chatted easily about the birds, and brought them round to each table to get a closer look and was happy to answer Lasted well over an hour and was so interesting and lovely. We saw him afterwards as well when he was tending to a buzzard that had been mistreated (how could anyone do that) and he was building trust between them - his love for his animals was clear to see. We then said hello to a number or other farm animals, goats, pigs, donkey, Alpacas and some gorgeous horses - a working farm surrounds it and overall, turned out to be a lovely afternoon, and well worth the visit. They have owls flying in the morning, 11:30 I believe, so if you stop for lunch, you could easily chill out for the whole day. Worth a trip for any animal lover !

Excellent morning talk and indoor flying display with owls, followed by equally good, and more spectacular, afternoon outdoor talk and flying display of various birds including a Kookaburra, Snowy owl, Hawk and an Eagle.Sandwich lunch purchased there was good.

When you arrive it looks pretty unimpressive, but there is quite a bit tucked away out of sight, plus the bird of prey display was one of the best we have seen - an excellent presenter.You enter through a cottage style garden with some cockatoos on stands, and outdoor tables for the tea-room. There is to visit (keep exploring except where it says private):- a garden with aviaries containing various owls and a few other birds- a field area with a pond and stream where ducks and goats wander round. This is where the display is held.- a further field with donkeys and alpacas- a row of aviaries with birds of prey- lots of stables mostly filled with horses- a barn with a historical display (an owl display is held here in the morning, though we didn't see that).

The hawk display was very impressive, but these only happen 1-2 times a day. If you don't catch one of these, the £10 entry fee is pretty steep, so phone ahead and check.

We visited this place before and experienced a great half day flying experience which was a bargain. We enjoyed it so returned and we again enjoyed the bird displays. The place is nice but quick to wander round and I can see how some people who paid and timed it to between the displays might feel it is overpriced. The barn flying is a good chance to look at the owls and learn a bit more about the characters. The falconer is a great young man who has a real love and passion for the birds which he wants to share. The afternoon display is a good chance to see the birds hover and swoop and take some lovely photographs.

Booked the owl evening for my husband's birthday. Had the most fantastic time. Arrived 2ish, wandered around and looked at the owls, watched the bird of prey display which lasted an hour and a half. Damien was so kind and informative. Then had a piece of cake and tea, and then after everyone else had left my husband and I flew three owls - a barn owl, a tawny and I think Dela is an Eagle Owl. It was magical and a very special privilege. Took masses of photos. Thank you, Damien. Thank you owls. We cannot recommend this enough. Those who have written critical reviews maybe lack soul.

My mum and me spent a lovely afternoon at the owl center, the falconer who flew the birds was extremely patient and interesting, he took lots of time to make sure everyone had a chance to see the birds up close. For a small donation to charity you could have a glove on and the bird fly to yr hand!! This was the highlight for me :-)! A nice tearoom is also there!

Had to review this having had a fantastic day there and found it to be great value for a day out.We paid £30 for each adult and £20 for our 12 year old son, this included a lunch, a lovely cream tea, alpaca walk and owl flying as well as two flying displays one in the barn & one outside. Damian who flew the birds was very generous with his time, sharing his knowledge of these fascinating birds.We arrived at 10.30 and left at 4.30 in a day that just flew by (pun intended!). Our 12 year old son loved it as did my old university friend, who I had not seen for 20 years and got dragged along.We are intending to return for a hawk walk in the not too distant future.

We called into the Exmoor Owl & Hall Centre on our way to North Devon. When we arrived in the car park I thought the place didn't look much - untidy, old 'shed style' toilets with the doors wide open. Still I thought I'd give it a chance - shouldn't have bothered. Walked around a scruffy farm for 15 minutes and left without even watching the 'who's - not sure how the lady kept her face straight when she took £30 off us for a family of four.

The kids generally enjoyed it, though even they soon got bored and wanted to go home part way through the bird show!Although something different I didn't especially enjoy any of it. Didn't take long to wander around so we had drinks in the cafe waiting for the show. The local area is lovely though so I'd visit the area again, just not this attraction for what it cost for a family with 3 young children!

My wife gave me a voucher for both of us to spend a day at the centre flying some owls and birds of prey under the watchful eye of Damien.The day included morning coffee and cake, lunch and afternoon cream tea all served by very friendly and efficient staffThe highlight of the day was of course the flying of the birds in such a lovely spot and with such wonderful weatherMy thanks to Damien for his attention to us through out the day making this a very special day for me

My boyfriend and I arrived at 12noon, the front garden was lovely and the few birds in the front garden were beautiful! We were excited to see the rest...We paid our £10 each, which at the time I did think was a little pricey but if the front garden was anything to go by it would be well worth the money! The lady that served us was nice and explained we had missed the first bird display but the next one was at 14:30...We thought we could wonder round for a while and wait for the show. We made our way round the back to look at the animals and were very disappointed! There were a few farm animals and 4/5birds of prey that we could actually see! The horses were beautiful and lovely to pet but not worth the £20 we paid. It took us all of 30minutes to walk around and decided we didn't want to spend 2 hours in the cafe waiting to watch the bird show! So we left! Disappointed...
